• Nov. 2005--Immtrac is in collaboration with Texas Medical Association TMA and Texas Pediatric Society TPS to develop a working group to discuss ImmTrac issues with private providers.

• Priority High leverage Actions– Derived from a much larger set of tasks– Deemed most critical

IPWG

Priority High leverage Actions

• Target Birth Registrars and educate on the benefits (G1)• Data entry through clearinghouse / billing data (TISWG)• Approach large physician groups first (large = 25+ pediatricians) (G2)• Physician and/or administrative champion to see implementation through (G2); enlist

physician champions to influence peers (TISWG)• Get school nurses to add immunization data (G1)• Commitment to educate within organized medical roundtables/forums, etc. (G3)• Grassroots campaign to get volunteers to do data entry; such as RSVP (G3)• Train the physicians staff (G2)• Get health plans to report activities (with incentives if needed) (G1)• Educate providers to encourage “ownership and involvement” (TISWG)• Hands-on training for those not using program may increase participation (G3)• Give TWICES to providers that don’t have other access to systems that feed

ImmTrac (G1)• Make ImmTrac information/consent information available at daycare centers, Head

Start, WIC (G1)

Texans Speak Out

• Survey effort put together by a coalition including St. David’s and the Houston Area Immunization Partnership

• Information gathered via a series of Town Hall Meetings

• Presented at the 2008 Immunization Summit in Austin

Texans Speak Out, Key Recommendations

• To improve immunization information systems, we should:– Ease the burden of data entry for clinics by adopting HL7

standards to link with electronic interfaces to existing software packages

– Improve data quality– Make data available to health care providers in a more timely

manner– Balance individual rights to privacy and access to information– Allow adults to maintain their immunization records in ImmTrac– Make immunization data accessible inside and outside Texas– Create financial incentives for full participation in immunization

information systems

Overlapping Goals

• Ease the burden of data entry for clinics by adopting HL7/Data entry through clearinghouse- billing data

• Create financial incentives for full participation in immunization information systems/Get health plans to report activities (with incentives if needed)

What are our priorities?

• 2 years later

• What we see as our priorities– Data exchange– Data quality– Promotion, Education & Training– Emergency Response

What are your thoughts?

Wrap

Thank You
