Common Mistakes in Homework 1
• Employees Database:– Hire Date• No Validation Text
– Ex: “Please enter a date on or before today”
• Did not use the Date() function• Did not use mathematical expressions
– <, =, >
– Title Code dropdown menu• Must limit to list!
Common Mistakes in Homework 1
• Employees Database:– Incorrect Employee Code Input Mask • > indicates (capitalization for all letters following)• L indicates letters only (capitalized)• 0 indicates all numbers only• \ allows anything written after it to appear exactly as
written• - shows as a “-”
Homework 2 (10 points)• Homework 2: Chapter 3 - Forms– Customers.accdb (database file)– Chapter 3 Guided and Applied Exercises (pp.22-30)– Chapter 3 Guided Exercise Questions (pg. 31)– Will go over homework hints next week

• Remember to insert the printer image in the products form for the printer record – Printer image is found on the course website
• If you edit something in a table, the changes are not applied directly to the form– Must go to form and re-add field using “Add
Existing Fields” (HINT: CUSTOMER TYPE)• Add calculated control for date in FOOTER– Hint: Date function from Homework 1
Homework 2 Hints
• Proper Formatting (Applied Step 14): – Controls should NOT overlap other controls– Controls should be aligned properly– Label names should be grammatically correct• Insert spaces between words
– Fix Tab Order – Do this last!– Points will be taken off for poor aesthetics

• Know the difference between :– Unbound control: not connected to any underlying
data (label)– Bound control: connected to underlying data in
table or query (textbox)– Calculated control: based on a formula, function,
expression (textbox with formula)
Preliminary Project Proposal
• TA will meet with group and discuss the final idea you will use for your final project– Also, have a back-up idea ready
• Read the Project Overview and consider your limitations
• Must hand in by end of class! (pp. 92-93)– One per group
