Data comes from multiple sources

The Present – So we installed .NET. Now what?

Browses allow users to get what they need faster

Browse URL Links pull the information together

Browse Hyperlink (Browse URL)– Link to external web pages– Link to internal document libraries– Link to a QAD maintenance function or report– Link to a QAD browse

– Links can be either general or specific. They can apply to 1 value only, or all values

Example 1 – External Link

Customer Service needs to find out the status of a shipment for a customer

– When was the order shipped?– What’s the Bill of Lading or Tracking

number?– When will it be delivered?

Setting up an External Link

1. What field do you want to link to?– Ctrl + F in a maintenance function– Right-click on the top of the column and click

4. Link is visible if you Right-Click on the field

5. Clicking the link opens a new window

Example 2 – External Document

Item Images are stored in a central document library on a network drive

– Is this the right part?

6. Determine what field the link should apply to and where the link should go

– In this case, the field is idh_part, and it’s going to a local drive

9. Clicking link pulls up the document (in this case, the image)

Example 3 – Maintenance Function or Report

Accounts Receivable gets a question on an Invoice sent to a customer

– The customer received an invoice but can’t remember the number, but would like to have it reprinted.

10. Determine what program to link to

12. What is the name of those fields? (Ctrl + F)

General Browse Links

General links can be created for any type of URLTo replace a value in the URL with the value of the field in the browse, use

– #b# – beginning of field to replace– #e# – end of field to replace– For example, #b#ih_inv_nbr#e#

More Details About Browse Links

There is virtually no limit to the number of browse URL links you can create

Links can be to all kinds of documents including PDF, Excel, Word, JPG, CAD drawings, etc.

Browse Link Maintenance is a similar function that will open the appropriate maintenance function when you double-click a record in the browse

Not all versions of QAD may not have 5 fields to link. In this case, you will need to set up a Browse Collection

– Right-Click to see Browse or Function– Occasional use– One linked field to another browse – One browse or maintenance function at a time

Browse Collection– All Browses/Functions open together– Can be used to define or streamline processes– Multiple linked browses or maintenance

– Invoice History– AP Payments/Checks– Inventory Discrepancies– Travel Expenses

5. Drag linked Browse underneath the first browse

Access to Browse Collection Maintenance– Administrator group for .NET UI, default is

qadadmin

Access to the Collection– Determined by location in the menu system– Each individual browse or maintenance

function
