Lighting• Lighting is very important for quality workmanship

•T5 and T8 lights were installed.•Numerous windows and skylights•The rotunda has KalWall windows to bring in natural light.•The shop floor, walls, and ceiling are all white to reflect light. A bonus to this has resulted in employees taking pride in keeping their work spaces extraordinarily clean.

Controlling the lighting cost

• Motion sensor light switches are being installed in various areas.

Air Quality

• Air quality is maintained by high efficiency HVAC units with Merv 7 filters that have a rating of 5 to 8 microns. Air from our deburring and blasting areas is run through a Farr filter unit with a HEPA filter, capable of removing particles as small a 1 micron, smoke, and odors. This can result in the air being as much as 55 degrees cooler in the summer.

Air Quality

• The HVAC System is set up to pull cooler air located near the floor during summer months, and draws warmer air located near the ceiling during winter months.

• Due to ISO 13485 medical device & FDA requirements, exterior doors remain closed at all times.

High Efficiency Compressor

• Constantly running the premium motor and unloading the compressor equates to lower operating costs. Added storage means less operating time.

High Efficiency Compressor

• The compressor room is set up so during the summer it discharges the heated air outside, and in the winter it discharges the heated air into the building.

• Screw air compressor and copper air pipe.

Recyclable Carpet

• The carpet is made of 35% recycled material and is 100% recyclable.

Kitchens• MCME has two kitchen areas for employees, equipped with 8 microwaves,

2 dishwashers, 2 double convection ovens, and 2 refrigerators. All appliances were chosen based on their energy efficiency.

• The kitchen is also fully stocked with dishware for the entire facility, no disposables are used throughout the facility.

Clean Water

• To cut down on the use of plastic water bottles, all drinking fountains and coffee pots have 10 micron purification filters. All employees were given reusable water bottles to make better use of the fountains.

Reverse Osmosis Water

• RO water is used to keep our machine coolants clean and free of contamination, this extends the life of the coolant.– Calcium and other minerals will build up and plug lines and

sprayers.

Water run off control• MCME has planted prairie grass on it’s

open areas on the south and east sides of the building. The prairie grass also results in no maintenance (mowing) after the 2nd year. It maintains a run off pond to insure that water will return to the water table without going into storm sewers or other properties.

Conserving Energy

• Exterior walls are Fabcon’s 12” Versa Core+Green wall panels and have an R-24 rating. The ceiling has an R-22.5 rating and the white membrane roof reflects heat away from the building.

Stainless Steel Flashing to hold white roof membrane. No maintenance and gives a nicer appearance.

Reusable Products

• Reusable cloth towels save on landfill use and can be washed and used many times.

• 16% of its energy consumed vs. paper towels.

Reusable ProductsWe were using cardboard boxes they were only good for one time through the shop and then put in to cardboard recycling.

Now, we are using plastic corrugated boxes they can be washed and reused almost indefinitely. Note: three sizes out of one.

Recycling Materials

• All waste metals, paper and cardboard are kept in a dry storage area inside the building thus eliminating water and ground contamination.

Recycling Materials

• Efforts are made by all parties in the building to recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, and aluminum. Numerous receptacles have been placed in common areas to encourage recycling.

Planning for the future

• The building has been set up to implement a closed loop chiller system.

• Use well water for cooling machines and discharge the well water into storm sewer so that it does not go in the sanitary sewer system.

• All new machines bought will be at 480V vs. 208V.
