- The water flow rate in a pipe is determined by use of the Venturi meter shown in Figure. Using the information given in the figure (pipe and throat diameter are respectively 10 cm and 6 cm) and h= 4cm, calculate the flow rate assuming uniform flow and no losses. Expressed results in US gallon/minute (gpm) OR

liters/second (ρwater=1000kg/m3).

- A horizontal venturi mete measures the flow of oil of specific gravity 0.9 in a 75 mm diameter pipeline. If the difference of pressure between the full bore and throat tapings is 34.5 kN/m2 and the area ratio m is 4 calculate the rate of flow assuming a coefficient of discharge of 0.97

- A circular orifice 650 mm2 in area is made in the vertical side of a tank. If the jet falls vertically through 0.5 m while moving horizontally through 1.5 m and the discharge is 0.1 m3/min of water determine the horizontal reaction of the jet on the tank.

- A jet of water of 22.5 cm diameter impinges normally on a flat plate moving at 0.6 m/s in the same direction as the jet. If the discharge is 0.14 m3/s find the force and the work done per second on the plate

- A jet of water 25 mm in diameter moving with a velocity of 6 m/s strikes a flat plate an angle of 30 0 to the normal to the plate. If the plate itself is moving with a velocity of 1.5 m/s and in the direction of the normal to its surface calculate the normal force exerted on the plate. Find also the work done per sec and the efficiency.
