Mental Disorders

A. Disorder – A disturbance in the normal function of a part of the body.

1. There are 230 types of mental disorders.

2. 1 in 5 children and adolescents may suffer from a mental disorder.

II. ANXIETY DISORDERS

A DISORDER IN WHICH INTENSE ANXIETY OR FEAR KEEPS A PERSON FROM FUNCTIONING NORMALLY.

A. PHOBIA

AN EXAGERATED FEAR OF A SPECIFIC SITUATION OR OBJECT.

B. PANIC ATTACK

INTENSE REAL FEAR 1. RAPID BREATHING, SWEATING,

FAST HEART RATE, AND NAUSEA

C. Obsessive-compulsive disorders

compulsions are urgent, repeated behaviors

rechecking something or doing something over and over

D. POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER

III. MOOD DISORDER

When people undergo changes in mood that seem inappropriate or extreme.

C. PSYCHIATRIST

MEDICAL DOCTOR WITH A SPECIALTY IN THE TREAMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS.
