• Engagement is critical to retention

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT MEMBERSHIP TODAY

Meaningful participation is the key to member retention –

and growth!

• What do we mean by engagement? • What are some best practices for member

engagement and retention? Getting to know you Orientation Induction -Welcome valued customer! Mentorship Action!!!!

WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW TO GROW

WHAT IS “ENGAGEMENT?” Engagement can mean many things…

• Meetings • Service projects • Social events • Networking • Fellowship

WENGAGEMENT STARTS WITH…HAT IS

“ Knowing Your Members:

• What is their family life?

• What is their vocation?

• What are their passions?

• What do they do for fun?

• Common interests? Shared experiences?

• Why are they interested in Rotary?

What is “Engagement?” ENGAGEMENT = ROTARIANS AT WORK!

ENGAGEMENT = HAVING FUN TOGETHER at is “Engagement?”

Why should someone join your Rotary Club?

ENGAGING BY AUDIENCE

Each member is unique - there is no “one size fits all” in successful member engagement plans!

FAMİLY INVOLVEMENT:

Invite family members to attend Rotary events and to participate in club projects

Engaging New Rotarians: Engagement Starts Before Joining the

Rotary Family!

• What do prospective members expect? Find out what they want & what they hope will happen.

• Share your club projects & social activities.

• Learn their passions – do they have service avenues they can bring to the club?

• New members should “hit the ground running” – get involved immediately in an area of their passion!

Engaging New Rotarians: A Warm Welcome!

• The induction ceremony is a milestone event - recognize & celebrate new members - It’s a BIG deal!

• “2 way” member orientation

• Learn their interests, strengths and goals. Ask: What do YOU want to do in Rotary?

• Activities & socialization • Mentor program

New members should feel as if they have come “home”!

procedures • Be an advocate for the new

member

ENGAGING EXPERIENCED ROTARIANS:

Engaged “seasoned” Rotarians valuable club assets. They bring the 3 T’s:

Talent (expertise)

Time (hours to invest)

Treasure (knowledge & expertise to impart)

Why do many members stay less than 1 year?

MEMBERSHIP “CHECK LIST” Engagement

• Treat members and prospects as our customers

• Learn why members join and what they want from their Rotary experience

• Think “value” – give members the opportunity to further their Rotary passions.

• Develop a mentoring program

• Make sure every member is engaged in something they like!

MEMBERSHIP “CHECK LIST” Engagement

• Add new activities for new members - consider “class projects”

• Find opportunities for family involvement, including family memberships

• Support new member attendance at conferences and assemblies

• Regularly survey members to determine levels of satisfaction and make changes if indicated!
