AUTHOR PREFACE
DEAR READER
Living in the biggest district of Uttar Pradesh, it was somewhere
there in my mind that we were far
behind from progress and wealth
instead.
Who does not have love and
affection for his motherland! I also
do have
Keen desire, engrafted deep into my heart, to make Meerjapur the
crown of India, got intensifying with time. I kept on my thinking
that doing something for Meerjapur is doing something for my
motherland and I opine, Doing something for your motherland
may or may not be gratefulness but not doing anything for Her, is
unforgivably ungratefulness.
I dont want to leave the ghost showing absurdly ingratitude to my

INTRODUCTION
In the history of Meerjapur, this city was known as Girijapur but
Saiyyad Shah Mirza was captured by the British government, so the
British called this city as Mirzapur fetkZ+iqj but after
independence, when in India, the cities were being renamed, then
the learned of this district clarified it that this is ehjtkiqj and not
fetkZ+iqjA Then even in all the Govt official work, the name was
corrected as ehjtkiqj except Railway Department, where still it is
mentioned as fetkZ+iqjA While in hindi the name was corrected but
in English it was remained as Mirzapur because none made an
effort to talk with the Govt. that if it is ehjtkiqj then how can we
spell it as Mirzapur? So I think the correct spelling should be
Meerjapur.
So I should make it clear that in hindi, the official name is ehjtkiqj
and in English it is Mirzapur.
-
7/23/2019 Meerjapur.pdf
9/64
So I request you that if here I am using the spelling Meerjapur it is
unofficial and yet to be corrected by the Govt., by the continuous
effort of ours. But in hindi you can unhesitatingly use this official
name ehjtkiqj without caring that in railway station it is
mentioned as fetkZ+iqjA

Before 1stApril 1989, Meerjapur was the Largest District of India
but on this day it was divided into two parts and a new district
Sonebhadra came into existence.
If we talk about the nomenclature of Meerjapur then as per the
description given by the learned of Meerjapur, after independence
of India, is as under
Meer ehj means sea
Ja tk means to emerge
Meer ja ehjtk means one who emerges from the sea who we
call Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth & Prosperity
And Pur iqj means Nagar or City
Thus the description of Meerjapur ehjtkiqj is the City of Goddess
Lakshmi i.e., The City Abundance with Treasure and Prosperity.

The Pre history of Meerjapur The Archaeologists,
Anthropologists or
Researchers have found
nearly 100 caves of pre
historic people in
Meerjapur district. The
first cave was searched by
Archwald Karlile in 1880.
Dr. S. A. Sali said that these caves are of 25,000 to 40,000 years old.
Most of the caves are near Lekhaniya Water Fall, 10 kms from
Ahrora or 70 kms from Meerjapur City.

Some of the caves have been destroyed by the stone crushers, some
are being destroyed and many of them are waiting of their turn.
These are the great and precious assets of the world for
researchers and can be a superlative place for attracting the
tourists from whole of the world.

MeerjapurThe Historical City
The Chunar FortIn the great literature
Chandrakanta Santati, you must have heard
about the kingdoms Naugarh, Vijaygarh
and Chunargarh. One of these forts, the
Chunargarh is in Meerjapur district while others are also nearby.
This Fort is in Chunar, 35 kms from the city.
This fort was built by King Vikramaditya for
his brother Bharthrihari. The fort was
under control of the rulers King
Vikramaditya, Prithviraj Chauhan, Shahabuddin
Gauri, Swami Raja, Sikandar Lodhi, Babar, Humayun,
Sher Shah, Akbar, Jahangir, Aurangzeb, Nawab Wazir,
Nawab of Awadh then East India Company and from
the company it went under control of the British.

The Chunar FortIn this fort there is a very old & big well. This
well was constructed by Swami Raja in 1333
CE (AD). There is a flight of stairs to go in
the well to reach the wellspring. Sonwa
Rani, the daughter of Swami Raja, used to go
there to take bath in the well.
The place where the king held his court with his
courtiers and the queen used
to see the proceedings of the
court from this balcony.
This is Sonwa Mandap, the place made by Swami Raja for his
daughters marriage. But shedidnt get marry
as Raja had put a condition that whoever
could defeat him in the fight would marry his
daughter. 12 persons were defeated & murdered by Swami Raja
and at last Alah Udal married Sonwa and took her with him.

It is said that if this fort had not been

made of mud or soil then Ganga would
not have gone to Varanasi, instead, it
would have turned to the district Sonbhadra. Because of this fort
only, the Ganga diverted northward to Varanasi.

with all others who love meerjapur
Don't you think that it will not be an
exaggeration if we say Meerjapur the most
beautiful district of Uttar Pradesh and one of
the most diversified and distinctive districts
in India!
But the story doesnt bring to an end here. Whole of this beauty is
in the veil. We have committed to commitment to
unveil its beauty. We make an appeal to you also,
Lets mingle our hands and keep pace together to
touch the horizon.
We are on a biggest Revolutionary Mission of
Meerjapur, affirming you that soon you will find
us at the zenith coming off with flying colors or
laying down dead on the earth,
As we don't like the strangulated and suffocated life sandwiched
between these two................................
