Photographer: Uwe Ommer

Presented by Bryan Smith

Uwe Ommer1943-

When Uwe was born in Germany, he admired photography and experimented with his camera techniques. He loved to take pictures of birds, but eventually got tired

of them and took pictures of things like car accidents to weddings for a local paper.

He left for Paris in 1962 to work as an assistant for advertising photographer Jean Pierre Ronzel and decided to stay. On 1966, he opened a studio showcasing photos of fashion and advertising for small women’s magazine. With following admirers increasing Uwe

showed his work to galleries and published his first of many books.

In 1955 Uwe decided to do the impossible. He created a challenge for himself to capture the essence of all families from every continent. In the year 2000, he collected 1,251 photographs

that depicts “family” the way it truly is. With his goal achieved, he learned through his photographs that family no matter where you are is a marvelous sight to behold.

Uwe Ommer has described his style of photography as “Natural Sophistication”
