DESCRIPTION

I wrote a blog a little while back that was a crossover between my one of my personal hobbies, guitar building, and my profession, business consulting around people. When I initially wrote the blog, I had quite a few pictures and it didn't translate into the blog format very well. With this version, I have all the pictures and a fraction of the words. Let me know which you prefer. The blog can be found here: http://www.media1.us/harrison-withers/measure-twice-cut-once/

One of my hobbies outside of work

is building musical instruments.

I don’t know much about

woodworking, so my

instruments are

generally pretty primitive.

www.media1.us

I started building

instruments out of

cigar boxes.

If you don’t have anything

good to work from, then use

what you have and

improvise.

Being creative and improvisational helps

me solve problems at work.

But dealing with real people

is not the same as

repurposing a found object.

Businesses make serious

investments in people

and they have real value

to the business.

(did I mention that they are people?)

Measure twice, cut once is an over-used cliché

www.media1.us

It’s one thing when you are

talking about a $1.99 2x4

www.media1.us

another thing entirely

when you are using

expensive exotic wood

www.media1.us

It’s more than the cost of the

wood.

That wood determines how the

instrument sounds and plays

www.media1.us

If you screw it up,

that instrument

might not be as good

as it could be

www.media1.us

It’s worth measuring twice,

to really know

what the value is.

Once you cut,

what is done, is done
