President’s Message Suzanne Martin As I write, we are expecting the first “big storm” of the season. Gardens are put to
bed, winter tires are on (or not) and sewing projects are lined up ready for those long indoor days. Maybe you are planning that warm get-‐away to southern climes, playing golf or pickle ball, and a refreshing swim in the pool. Whatever your winter holds, I’m wishing each of you moments of joy and reflection at the bounty that our lives hold. If you missed our last meeting, Meg Cox gave a great program on ritual in our lives. She has a website megcox.com and check out her blog. We have been asked to participate in a couple upcoming projects, the Honor Flight is asking for 25 quilts from Central Oregon guilds for veterans from Korea and WWII. They will leave from Redmond to visit Wash DC in May. These quilts should be lap-‐sized and in a patriotic color scheme. The other quilt challenge is sponsored by the League of Women Voters in recognition of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage next year. These quilts will be in a special exhibit at the SOQS in 2020. The guild dues will be going up to $45 per year. This is not intended to be a hardship for
anyone, and I don’t want to lose any members because of this. There is anonymous assistance available if someone needs it. Contact Jan Durham or Suzanne Martin. And yet another change of venue! For the meeting on January 13th, we will still be at Partners in Care at the same time, 6:45pm. They haven’t begun construction, but BJ’s has! Stay tuned for more changes…… Hope to see everyone at the holiday party, with bells on!

Community Quilts Lizbeth Cattle, Cathy Cholick, Billie Krutsch, Diana Lawlis, Joyce Andrew Thank you so much to all our amazing, talented Community Quilts quilters who participated in our Community Quilts efforts during 2019! Your talents and tireless work have resulted in a record number of gorgeous quilts during 2019. We will make our last distribution of quilts for the year on December 10. Let’s finish our UFO charity quilts to donate to our many charities before the holiday season. TIPS: We discussed a few tips at our recent meetings: after sewing all seams completely, press your quilt top on the back then on the front; check that all seams are fully opened with no tucks at the seam lines; and cut all loose threads on the back and front (especially those that might show behind light colored fabrics). JANUARY PROJECT: On Wednesday, January 15, bring a pattern that uses fat quarters. You will select fat quarters from the CQ bins for your Community Quilt. We had great fun at our last FQ project! REMINDER: We will NOT meet on two important Wednesdays – Christmas and New Year’s Day! How disappointing for us not to see our sewing friends for three whole weeks! In 2020, everyone is always welcome to join us on Wednesdays for a fun day of sewing. Bring a lunch! Once your top is finished, we provide batting and backing to complete your project. Wednesday meetings are at Nativity Lutheran Church from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM at 60850 Brosterhous Rd.

Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show Martha Sanders Dawn Boyd , the director of the SOQS, came to our November meeting to share this information about a special exhibit in 2020’s show: The celebration of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage special exhibit is open to Central Oregon quilters. The invitation will first go out to the Central Oregon Guilds, with each guild having the opportunity to feature up to four quilts (and yes, they can be done by one or more quilters). If we do not reach the maximum of 20 quilts total then quilters who do not belong to a guild may also be invited to take part. The liaison between the quilt show and this exhibit will be Susan Cobb of the East of the Cascades Guild, and the EofC Guild leaders Gilda and Diane will be contacting each of the Guild Leaders to present the formal invitation to participate.
Also, the League of Women Voter’s is hoping to gather grant money to provide prizes for this exhibit – but we haven’t had any confirmation on this yet.
Raffle Quilt 2020 Kathy Chism It’s time to start working on our raffle quilt for 2020. The raffle quilt is the largest fund raiser that our guild has and the money earned helps pay for our programs and speakers. This year we are making a Christmas quilt. We would love to have you join our team. Please contact Kathy Chism if you are interested.
Floss Collection Ruth Ott Ruth Ott will be collecting floss for the Quilts for Empowerment women in Kenya November through March at the guild meetings.

Stitchin’ Post 311 W. Cascade, Sisters 541-‐549-‐6061 www.stitchinpost.com Happy New Year and here’s to a creative 2020! It is hard to say 2020, it seems so far away but it is right around the corner. We will be celebrating many special occasions this coming year. The Stitchin’ Post will be celebrating it’s 45th birthday on May 23rd and we will be moving our special Customer Appreciation Days to that week from it’s April date. We are planning quite a celebration so put that on your calendar. Since I hung the
first outdoor quilt show the same year on the second Saturday in July. Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show will also be celebrating it’s 45th birthday. And we have big plans for that celebration that you will soon be seeing. Valori is doing a fabulous job with The Stitchin’ Post and I still help her out when she needs me. At the moment it is the season that we meet with salesmen and do all of the planning of goods that lead up to the quilt show. Jackie Erickson, the queen of kits˛ has outdone herself along with Samantha Roshak with our project promotions and kits. If you are not signed up for newsletters, you should be! You can keep in touch with all the creative ideas that the Stitchin’ Post is famous for as well as classes and workshops and kits that Jackie has designed. Once a month I write a blog entitled ‘Dreaming in Color’ that gives you ideas along with photos about how to work with color in your quilting life.
There is always fabric, new notions, yarn, and curated gifts arriving at the store. January is no exception. We take inventory the first week, do a deep cleaning, create new displays featuring new samples, and begin a fabulous line up of classes and workshops. Diane Jaquith will be finishing up the winter/spring line in the next two weeks and we will post it online or you can come by the store for a copy. Then each week there will be an online feature of upcoming classes. We are celebrating the best fall ever of ‘creatives in the classroom’. Hope to you very soon! Jean and Val

BJ’s Quilt Basket 20225 Badger Road, Bend 541-‐383-‐4310 www.bjsquiltbasket.com Hello, Friends! It has been a glorious late fall day, but I know winter is right around the corner. We're gearing up for our construction, quick holiday gifts (check our website for some fun classes), our annual Stuff My Stocking specials, Block of the Month and our new Pre-‐Cut Party. If you haven't signed up for our weekly email newsletter or "liked" us on Facebook, please do as that's the best way to keep up to date on all the fun events we have going on. As I watched the sun go down during my afternoon walk with the dogs, I reflected on our lovely Central Oregon quilting community. We have lost a few of our beloved founding mothers this year, but we have also made so many wonderful new friends as our area continues to attract creative and giving people. I am grateful to all of you for making our community such a vibrant and caring place. Wishing all of you the most joyous of holidays, Kathy
