Kaustav Chaudhury is currently pursuing his Masters in Manage-
ment Information Systems at the USF Muma College of Business. He
plans to graduate this December. He completed his Bachelors in Tech-
nology in 2011 at Kolkata, City located in West Bengal, India. His
interest towards the growing world of information pushed him to join
the Corporate IT world as a Data Analyst for GE. With more than 4
years of experience working as an IT professional, he is now inclined to
learn the entrepreneurial side of organizations and how information
can be an asset to slingshot business strategies. Mining data and find-
ing patterns and trends in raw data is his technical forte.
He loves to solve complex problems and finding creative solutions to any issues. He acquired
his Green Belt certification in Six Sigma for process improvement from GE, for successful
process improvement implementation in 2012. When not at work, he is a freelance music
composer/artist and an android custom app developer.
He is currently working under Dr. Ozkul on the FDOT District 7 Land Use Analysis Project
where primary focus is to look into the success factors that contribute towards building
optimum areas for strategic logistic centers in the Greater Tampa Bay area. He hopes to apply
his skills in data analytics and optimization to find useful trends in the information that is
available. Welcome, Kaustav!

The Tampa Bay Clean Cities Coalition (TBCCC) supported local Earth Day events around Tampa last week. At the
April 22 “Beyond Sustainability Conference” held at Hillsborough Community College’s Ybor City Campus, Steve Reich
presented on reducing transportation’s carbon footprint in Tampa Bay by alternative fuel use. TBCCC staff also distributed
literature on the benefits of alternative fuels at the 2016 EcoFest held April 23 at Lowry Park Zoo.
Walkwise Florida, a USF Center for Urban Transportation Research program, funded through FDOT spent 3 Tuesdays
in April educating emergency responders and residents in Longboat Key.
Joel Volinski participated in the Florida Public Transportation Association Board of Directors meeting at Lee Tran in
Ft. Myers. He is now the longest continuous serving member of the FPTA Board of Directors having served for 33 years.
Joel Volinski worked with a number of universities to have them include us as members of their consortia for the UTC
competition. USF has been invited to join the separate UTC applications led by Carnegie Mellon University and the Uni-

NOTEWORTHY ACCOLADES
The University of South Florida Bicycle Action Committee was founded by Bike/Walk Tampa Bay Program Director,
Julie Bond. Since, the group has been working to make USF a bicycle friendly campus. “I wanted to bring everyone to-
gether to make biking a priority on USF’s campus,” she says.
Students at University of South Florida are encouraged to bike to get around. Bikes can be borrowed from the USF Rec-
reation Center or the Share-A-Bull bike share program to help students get across campus quickly. BullRunner shuttles
are also fitted with bike racks for students who want to bike on campus but have too long a commute to ride their bikes
from home. Maps of available bicycle parking also help students to navigate the USF area by bike.
In 2013, USF established a campus-wide 25 mile an hour speed limit. Since, there have been no bike fatalities on cam-
pus and USF has a very low rate of bicycle crashes each year. Only 34 people were injured on bikes in the past three
years, and USF’s student population is 42,030.
Not only are students empowered to choose cycling as a preferred mode of transportation, they are taught to ride safely,
too. Safety education presentations are available to members of the campus community upon request via the Bike/Walk
Tampa Bay website. In addition, campus police enforce bicycle safety, teach students safe transportation practices, and
students can protect their bikes by registering them with the USF Anti-Theft Decal program.
Are you biking safely on campus? Click here to take the USF Bicycle Safety Quiz and find out!
