MASSES FOR THE WEEK
FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
My Dear Parishioners, Why did Jesus liken himself to a shep-herd? Shepherds were a common sight when Jesus lived, and he knew that people would easily relate to them. Good shepherds took great care in protecting and tending their flocks. Sometimes a sheep would wander off from the flock and become lost. A shepherd who took his job seriously would quickly search and call out for his lost sheep and the sheep would respond to the voice of its shep-herd, and only his voice. When the shepherd found the wayward animal, he would place it on his shoulders and carry it back to the flock. One of the most prominent images of Jesus is that of the Good Shepherd. Through-out Christianity Jesus has been portrayed in art, literature and music as the Shepherd. Alert and attentive, He carries the lost sheep upon his shoulders, bringing them home. This image of Jesus is based on the way he treated all people-he sought them out when they were lost in sin, he freed them from the power of evil, he healed them of their infirmi-ties. Ultimately, the love of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, was so great that he gave his life for his sheep-for us. Today we are reminded to listen to the voice of Jesus. He feeds us, his lambs, through his teachings and through the Eucharist. Like the shepherd who calls his sheep, the voice of Jesus is distinct, unlike any other. It is the only voice we are to fol-low. His voice is calling each one of us. Are we listening? God Bless, Msgr. Maresca

2014 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL This year’s theme, “When we Give We Share
the Light of Faith”, is based on the recent encyclical by Pope Francis: Lumen Fidei: The Light of Faith. It challenges us to be the light of the world by sharing our faith, commitment
and generosity.
I am so appreciative of the wonderful response to the appeal. We have truly taken to heart the
words of our Holy Father. At this time, we have pledged $40,430 towards our goal of
$44,615. Monies received to this date amount to $25,671. This accounts for 126 donors. Last year 727 donors contributed to the appeal. Let us make every effort to reach our donor goal in order to have a successful appeal in our par-
ish. If you have not pledged at this time, please prayerfully consider a pledge. All monies over goal comes back to our parish 100% and that
will be put toward the new church boiler.
Thank you very much for the sacrifices each of you makes to support this appeal.
Msgr. Maresca
