Nathaniel Russell was a RhodeIslander, but made a fortune in
Charleston from the tobacco, cotton,and slave trades.
The house appears just as itdid in 1808. As such, it holdgreat educational value for
the history of the Russellfamily.

The Aiken-RhettHouse was built
in 1820.
It belonged to a merchant who wasforced to sell it after he lost five ships
at sea.
An Irish immigrant named WilliamAiken bought it, and his son began
renovations.
The house also houses a formidable artcollection, which is fully restored!
