Greetings,
I cannot believe that it is already the March newsletter. Although we have had a
couple of snowstorms, they have been relatively minor. When all is said and done,
it has been a warm and mild winter. This month Spring will be coming.
February was a busy month with lots of event to attend. We had the Birthday Bash which was
postponed a week due to the weather. We have started to offer Karaoke and the few participants who
were brave enough to get up and sing were pretty good. It is always nice to see some new and
creative ideas to help keep the Bash fresh.
The Super Bowl Party was well attended and it seemed that most in attendance went home with lots of
raffle items. Thank you to Dan Howlett, his committee and volunteers for the hard work and effort it
took to make this a successful event.
Also in February, we had the Sweetheart Dinner, a fundraiser for the Scholarship Fund. The event
was well attended and managed to raise over $600 which will be given to qualified students in the
area. Congratulations to the Committee for another successful event. Following the Dinner was the
Not So Newly-wed Game hosted by Tim and Vicki Rodrigue. There were lots of laughs and even a
couple of surprises from individuals. It was a fun and entertaining evening.
At the end of February there was a Comedy Club Night, thanks to Tim Rodrigue, benefiting the Cony
Project Graduation. As usual this event was funny and a relaxing evening. If you have never been to
Comedy Night I encourage you to check it out.
In March there will be the monthly Birthday Bash along with the Initiation of the new Exalted Ruler
and her suite of Officers for the 2016-2017 year. Let’s all thank them for their willingness to
volunteer their time to move the Lodge ahead and wish them well. There is usually a band or DJ
available during Initiation, I encourage you to come and enjoy the entertainment.
Also in March the Cribbage Tournament will be ending. This event has had the largest participation
in recent memory. Wednesdays have been filled with lots of laugh and good conversation. I found
this to be a fantastic way to meet your fellow members on a social basis. Thank you to George and
Rachel Jones for running this event and raising funds for Lodge improvements, like the water
softener.
By the next newsletter, hopefully the grass will be turning green, the trees will be budding and the
flowers will be breaking ground. Think Spring!
In Elkdom,
Wes De Campos
Exalted Ruler

Annual Togus Christmas Party Update
Roger O’Claire (left) was a huge success at the annual Togus Christmas Party. On December 13th, volunteers from Elks Lodge 964 joined him in sharing music and food with the residents of the mental health ward. Many residents joined in singing some old favorites and popular Christmas songs and demonstrated their appreciation by surrounding Roger at the end of the event, wanting to thank and talk to him. Each resident also received a Christmas card (filled out by local students) and a book of Canteen coupons; also, a donation of needed clothing was left with ward staff to distribute as
needed. During the event it was discovered that music is a key treatment and harmonicas were subsequently purchased and delivered to the unit.
Left to right: Theresa Cloutier, Roger O’Claire, Lena Michaud, Shu Michaud, Karen Curtis,
Maria Hassen (and Dave Hassen behind the camera).
Respectfully submitted, Karen Curtis Veterans Affairs Chairman

Bartenders Wanted The Lodge is looking for part-time bartenders. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends on the main floor and the Sports Lounge. February’s Elk of the Month
Karen is a new member at the Augusta Lodge. In the few month that she has been a member she has been very active in participating in many of the Lodge events. At almost any event you will see Karen, either helping in some way or attending the event. She has volunteered for Football Sundays by helping cooking & serving food. She is also a member of the Birthday Bash Committee, volunteering and offering new ideas to ensure that this monthly event continues to be new and fresh. Recently she has taken over the duties of the Veterans Affairs Committee and will continue to be the Veterans Affairs Chairman next year. If you see Karen at the Lodge, be sure to thank her for her enthusiasm & congratulate her on all her efforts for the Augusta Elks Lodge.

NOT SO NEWLY-WED SHOW UPDATE The 4th annual “Not So Newly-wed Show”, was a success. Thanks to the contestants Wes & Joanne De Campos, Brain & Diane Pratt, Roger & Suzette Carrier , & Terry & Beth Baker. The Bakers won the first prize but not before Terry kept the crowd in stitches. We all had a good time. A special thanks to my wife Vicki and Monique Laflamme for donating many items for the prize baskets. Lastly, thanks to Mike and Sue Breton for once again putting on an incredible meal. . Sincerely Tim Rodrigue

Super Bowl Party Update
I would like to thank the sponsors of the Augusta Elks Super Bowl Party, Southern Wine &
Spirts of New England, Valley Distributors, and Pine State Trading, Wes & Joanne De Cam-
pos, and Monique LaFlamme for their generous donations of raffle items. This function
would have been much smaller if not for their generous contributions. But most of all it’s
about the volunteers like Wes & Joanne De Campos, Dave & Sue Kaplan, Anthony & Linda
Gause, Barb Thompson, Lori Howlett, Monique LaFlamme, and Karen Curtis. If you have ev-
er done a function at the lodge you know how much work it in entails. Not one person does it
alone, and these people are a great team to work with. So please give these individuals a tip of
the antlers for one great super bowl party. Please don’t think I’m just picking on this group be-
cause it’s not just them, it’s every person that came and bought raffle tickets, donated food for
the potluck or purchased drinks at the bar. We are the ELKS and that’s what being supportive
members is all about. No one said we couldn’t have a good time doing it……
Respectfully submitted,
Dan Howlett, Event Chairman
