A downtown businessman has wonover a seated president of the Racine’scity council.

Keith Fair, 58, owner of the Place onSixth bar at 509 Sixth St., defeated JeffCoe for the 1st District aldermanic seat.

The two, Fair and Coe, have faced offin the past, and Tuesday April 5, resultsshowed Fair taking the seat, 332 votes to306.

Over the past decade the two politicalrivals have gone at it five consecutivetime.

This makes Fair's second term on theRacine City Council.

Coe, the current Council president,had won twice against Fair and anothertime successfully challenged signatureson his nomination papers to remove himfrom the ballot.

By phone Fair said that, "I entered thisrace because I believe we can accom-plish anything in Racine if we just worktogether. "While our community facesmany challenges, we also share commongoals - bringing transparency back tocity government, reducing crime, andrevitalizing the downtown business dis-trict to create real job opportunities forall."

The district he will oversee includesthe city's Downtown area as well as alarge segment of midtown. The district isone of several majority minority district.

If Fair’s election is not challenged byCoe, He will be sworn in and take hisseat at the April 19th meeting of thecommon council, at 7:00 PM.
