Project Scope

This project affected the two largest Multiplex

SodaFactory remote beverage chillers, the Model 44M

and 50M. The project focuses on:

Energy reduction

– New models use 30% less energy than the models they replace

• New circulation pump/motor assembly uses less energy than previous version

• Patent-pending control software monitors demand and reduces low-demand energy consumption

Reliability

– New, magnetic-drive circulation pump eliminates the pump drive shaft seal.

• #1 reliability contributor on previous models

The Multiplex Energy Efficiency Solution

• Replace components with more efficient versions – More efficient & reliable re-circulation pump reduces energy consumption in a 24 hours continually running component • Reduce energy used during idle/low volume periods – Patent-pending energy reduction control algorithm monitors demand. During low-demand periods, the circulation and agitation motors are cycled according to store conditions. Program adapts to store demand and conditions allowing reduced energy while keeping drink quality high • Redesign refrigeration system on Icecore 44HC – R290 – New twin evaporator design in the Icecore 44HC allows ice bank thickness around the evaporator to be reduced without reducing ice weight - Icecore 44HC available in 220VAC/50Hz/1Ph electrical only. Please check your local agencies for hydro-carbon refrigerant acceptance.

Field Test Results, Icecore 50G

Multiplex 44HC & 44G

– Field tests showed Model 44G and 44HC delivered average 30% energy saving against current Multiplex Model 44M

– Lab tests showed 50% energy saving against competitive chiller

Multiplex Model 50G

– Field tests showed Model 50G delivered average 32% energy savings vs. current Multiplex Model 50M

Energy Savings Results

Reliability

Magnetic-drive circulation pump

– Eliminates pump shaft seal (#1 reliability issue for remote chillers)

– Pump vanes are made from PEEK instead of carbon. Reduces chance of vanes fracturing and contaminating system

Model 44HC twin refrigeration system

– Dual, independent refrigeration circuits allow partial capacity to be retained if one system fails

– Icecore 44HC available in 220VAC/50Hz/1Ph electrical only. Please check your local agencies for hydro-carbon refrigerant acceptance

systems

– Each system has < 150g charge of R290 to meet agency guidelines

– Icecore 44HC available in 220VAC/50Hz/1Ph electrical only. Please check your local agencies for hydro-carbon refrigerant acceptance

Refrigerant Facts

Hydrocarbon refrigerants are naturally occurring refrigerant, non-toxic & zero ozone depleting

Hydrocarbon refrigerants conforms to Refrigerants

Naturally organization’s requirements

They have a low Global Warming Potential

Hydrocarbon gasses have been used in refrigeration since 1867 and are well accepted in the field

Multiplex versus the Competition

Energy Savings • Multiplex:

+ 30-35% improvement vs. current Multiplex chillers + 45-50% improvement over competitive chillers currently in trade + All of the savings are chiller-based and do not require additional system

components to be changed

Reliability • Multiplex

+ New, magnetic-drive, seal-less circulation pump addresses number one reliability issue for remote chillers. No shaft seal to leak means less down time, less M&R expense over the life of the equipment

Multiplex versus the Competition

Compatibility • Multiplex

+ Solution can easily be used for new stores, remodels and replacements. All benefits are derived from the chiller and do not require complete system to be installed

System Cost • Multiplex

+ Chiller is approximately $600 more than current Model 44M + ROI for chiller is 7-10 months + Includes HFC-free solution!

+ Complete system cost is approximately $25,000, with installation

Capacity evaluation in high throughput store

• 2065 units sold in a week • 351 drinks sold on a peak day of 17% of sales for the week • 14.3 oz is the average size of all drinks combined • 450 lb daily ice production ( worse case without a water chiller ) • Peak hour of 8.57% of daily sales = 30 drinks per hour averaging a drink every two minutes • The blue line indicates ice usage. The fact that it’s a flat line indicates ice is being replace in the 23 # bin faster than its being drawn.
