“Becoming well-known graduate school with

highest national accreditation and initiating international recognition”.

1. Conducting graduate education (master and Ph.D degree) based on autonomy as the place of building character and professionalism of human resources with empowerment containing the spirit of democratization aknowledging pluralism oriented to the search of alternative solution toward actual problems from the view point of science, morality, and conscience.

2. Producing graduates in order to be the agents of change as the modernisationstrength to the society, possessing compentency in science, relevance and strong competition, and moral intelectualitybehaviour.

3. Conducting, developing, and improving the habit of research and social service in order to improve the academic quality by developing excellent sciences or knowledge which are beneficial for the change of better social life

In order to achieve vision and to conduct the mission, the goals of USU Graduade School were formulated as follows: :

1. Producing qualified graduates being capable to develop science, technology, humanity, and art based on morality, religion, and competetiveness in national as well as international level.

2. Producing innovative research supporting the development of science, technology, humanity, and art in national as well as international level.

3. Producing social service based on logics and research contributing to advance social welfare, to enrich the social life, and to empower the society innovatively so that they are able to solve their problems independently and sustainably

4. Realizing the adaptive, creative, and proactive independence toward community demands and development challenges nationally or internationally.

5. Improving the quality of learning management continuously to achieve excellence in national or international competition and cooperation.

6. Becoming the moral and intelectual power in Indonesian civil society.

7. Developing student potentials so that they become the faithful people, believe in God, and behave nobly, healtily, scientifically, smartly, creatively, independently, skilledly, competently, and culturally for the sake of nation.

University of Sumatera Utara possesses 65 study programs, 23 for Ph.D and 42 for master degree.

Among the 65 study programs, 49 mono-disciplinary ones are sent to be academically managed in 15 faculties after the admission of new students and 6 multi-disciplinary ones remain fully under the management of Graduate School.
