INTRODUCTION

• Mammals are vertebrates because they have a backbone. They are warm blooded animals. They born alive. There are 4,000 different species of mammals. The smallest one is the hog nosed bat and the largest is the blue whale. Some mammals have a tail.

WHAT TYPE OF BODY COVERING DO THEY HAVE?

They have hair or fur.

ARE THEY OVIPAROUS O VIVIPAROUS ?

• They are viviparous because they are born alive. They produce milk to feed their babies through the mammary glands. This allows them to spend more time with their young and teach them important skills that they need to survive on their own.

HOW DO THEY BREATHE?

They have lungs to breathe. They get oxygen from air.

WHERE DO THEY LIVE ?

• They live on land or in water. The polar bears live at the North Pole and the penguins on the South Pole. They live there because they need cold environments to survive.

HOW DO THEY MOVE ?

• They walk, run, jump and swim.

HOW MANY LEGS DO THEY HAVE ?

The majority of mammals have 2 or 4 legs.Aquatic mammals don’t have legs.

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF THE TAIL ?

The aquatic mammals use their tail to move. The terrestrial animals use their tail to maintain the balance.

WHAT KIND OF FOOD DO THEY EAT ?

The terrestrial mammals are herbivorous and carnivorous. The aquatic mammals are carnivorous.
