HABITAT• Live in small

herds of 10, with few antelopes

•Found in the wild only in two mountain regions of southwest Africa.

Zebras and their Stripes• People think the stripes

are for camouflage, but the true reason behind them is that the coat acts as a bright signal to others in the herd, it also helps foals find their mothers.

• Mountain zebras: has sleek narrow stripes with a white belly, and a dewlap under its neck. It’s the only with one.

• Grevy zebras: narrow vertical stripes

• Plains zebras: broad stripes

Food Source• They spend 60 to 80% of the day grazing and keeping alert to

FUN FACTS!

• The three zebra species are no more related to each other than they are to horses and asses.

• Zebras mix with other grass-eaters such as wild beasts.

• When they groom themselves the roll in the mud, let it dry, then shake it off. This pulls the dry skin and loose hair off.

• They can dig down as far as three feet in a river bed.
