MAKING LEMONADE

Low cost (or free) tips, tricks, and tools to make your digital archives accessible

Christina Prucha • Logan College of Chiropractic MOBIUS Conference • 4 June 2013

THE PROBLEM No funding for the archives or its projects

Digitizing Software training

No tech support for OMEKA.

THE GOAL Making digital content available when the

budget is small (or non-existent) and/or there is little to no tech support.

LESSONS LEARNED Super easy to use and end product looks

nice! Works great for images! I wish it had a slideshow feature. Definitely can be used for documents but I

find I like it better for images. (This is probably due to me trying to maximize what I can do with 500 MB.)

I wish the subjects were searchable. (Only keywords are searchable at present.)

Don’t overload the CSV feature (bulk upload for metadata stored in an Excel worksheet).

LESSONS LEARNED So far, I like it. Clean presentation. Easily

embedded or linked to. Lots of potential to market. I’m giving up having everything integrated in

one site but I’ve gained a very nice presentation platform.

The “search this publication” feature hasn’t work for me and I’m not sure why.

Free (with ads). Paid subscription has no ads, as I understand it.

Overall, very pleased with ease of use and presentation.
