The event received around 100 applications out of which 30 were selected. The participants of MII EB were selected from an outstanding pool of applicants after vigorous rounds of

applications and interview process. They were provided with an education based on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) framework of Disciplined Entrepreneurship that combined rigorous academic study with the excitement of discovery, support and intellectual stimulation in an intense immersive experience.
During the bootcamp, they were pushed to the limits, inspired, challenged by the faculties, Speakers, MIT GEB Alumni and Mentors from all over world. The participants were trained in analyzing 24 steps frame work of Disciplined Entrepreneurship discovered by Prof Bill Aulet of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. There were around 30 speakers spanning over 11 days of the bootcamp. The speakers had expertise of startup creation, startup mentoring, financials, Intellectual property, taxation, social innovation, open innovation, entrepreneurship success, Product strategy and positioning, startup culture in USA, France, Germany and UK. The speakers/faculties/mentors from various organization including Indian Institute of Science, InnAccel, Government agency, Google, IBM, Startups, K&S Partners, IbHubs, etc.

The participants were made to work on the deliverables every day on the concepts taught in the sessions and had to submit at the end of the day. On the final day, they had to pitch their venture in front of the jury consisting of mentors, real investors, VCs, Angels, Rotary club, OCEO labs, etc. There were two teams which were announced as winners who won prize money of ₹10K and ₹5K for first and second prize respectively. The participants had overall good feedback about the bootcamp and were motivated to start a venture or to nurture their startup into seeing the path of success.

Dr Shyam holds a doctorate in Real Time Embedded Systems, invented first Hardware based anti-virus named KNOXWARE. The talk mainly highlighted on the need to create HMI (Human Machine Interaction) therefore making the problems more solvable. Famous quote being “People pay for experience, not for the product”. The session started with the groupie! The participant batch was introduced to the
basic topics of Deep learning. Previous knowledge about Machine Learning was
refreshed for the participants, the talk drew the complicated process of coding
and building algorithm, collecting features into a simpler form i.e. DARVIZ (deep
abstract representation, visualization, and verification of deep learning models)
It’s a visual programming IDE, where design of a deep learning model becomes
intuitive by using a drag-and-drop framework.
Once the designing is done, DARVIZ can write the execution in deep learning code. It uses three different platforms i.e. Tensorflow (Python), CAFFE (C++),

Theano (Python), Torch (Lua), and Deeplearning4j (Java). This tool helps in extreme rapid prototyping of deep learning models and implementation of state of art papers. The perks which we were able to experience was it could take any state of paper (for instance a pdf file) which could scan and was able to write the code in any of the three platforms available, which was amazing. Topic: Making Innovation Happen: Crossing the Chasm Between Concept and Product
A Vijayarajan gave an inspirational talk on the topic ‘Crossing the chasm.’ It gave an insight into business. Speaker told about his 40 years of his experience in industries, under product development in medical technologies and information technology. Being the founder and chief technology officer of Innaccel technologies, Vijayarajan spoke about the 5 Medtech products that Innaccel had created in the past few years. “InnAccel identifies critical unmet needs, with large addressable markets, using the Biodesign process. Selected through a 6-9 month Biodesign program, form the basis of projects to solve these needs through a novel medical technology. These projects undergo a structured 2-3 year development and engineering path- resulting in a world-class, regulatory certified, commercially viable product.” The ideologies of crossing the chasm between concept and product made participants think the exact steps that need to be taken while designing products or solutions. of Life vehicles. Speaker is the Director of Kamath Auto Recyclers Pvt. Ltd.
Popularly known as KAARZ.Ms Anjana discussed about her journey of becoming
entrepreneur. Stressing upon the recycling problems and following environmental
issues, channelizing the recycling solutions give appropriate conditions for self

India. Raising 1350 Cr INR for the company is the motto of Anjana. Recycling
unit can efficiently sustain for 20 years and later electric cars. Startup
entrepreneurs need to be careful in talking to government regulatory, in knowing
our customers and creating awareness among the public.
Name of Speaker: Ms. Leena Paul, Department of International Trade British
High Commission
Date: 21st July 2017 Title of Talk: Indian Entrepreneurship Support from the UK
Ms. Leena Paul from the Department of International Trade, British high
Commission shared the details of encouragement, and support available to
Indian entrepreneurs. India, and the UK enjoy a special relationship with UK
being the third highest investor in India, and India being the fifth highest investor
in the UK. The Department of International Trade in UK does not differentiate
between the companies in the UK: local branches of foreign companies enjoy the
same status as UK companies. Just starting an office in the UK gives an Indian
company free access to the services of the Department of International Trade in
more than 150 countries.
The UK government has been running the CATAPULT program to transform the
UK’s capability for innovation in specific areas, and help drive future economic
growth. At the time of writing this report, CATAPULT had about 2500

collaborations across more than 2800 SME that worked across 24 countries. The
current investment in CATAPULT exceeds 850 Million Pounds, and has more

business to have access to all the benefits of the CATAPULT program.
There are a few other initiatives run jointly by the Indian, and UK governments:
1. The India-UK Collaborative Industrial Research & Development Program that
provides upto 300 million pounds to support business led collaborative R&D.
2. The Newton Bhabha Fund aims to bring together the UK and Indian scientific
research and innovation sectors to find joint solutions to the challenges facing
India in economic development and social welfare.
3. The Tech Rocketship Awards is an initiative by the UK’s Department of
International Trade (DIT) in India, aimed at identifying India’s top young
entrepreneurs and providing them with expert business advice and
support to help them go global through the UK. 2016 saw 10 winners from
India.
4. The Department for International Trade’s (DIT) Global Entrepreneur
Programme (GEP) helps overseas entrepreneurs and early stage
technology businesses or startups that want to relocate their business to
the UK.
5. The SIRIUS programme supports young entrepreneurs to live, and build their
businesses in the UK.

Day started in Aarogya Seva Kendra. Participants were given T-shirts to wear. A theater personality addressed us and gave two activities to perform on:
1) How to be ourselves and not worry what others think. In this activity we were told to hold anyone object and think of it as another object and work on it.
2) How to say yes and continue a conversation with strangers. In this activity we had to gift something to a stranger and he thinks it as another and replies to it and the conversation should go on.
Quest to perform in LalBagh was initiated to identify the prominent places inside. Participantswere given 40 min to complete the task. After finding each place the teams had to take selfie in front of it with all the team members. They got to know the legacy of the places. Then a teacher who made them perform 3 activities on
1) How quick we can be in responding, in which we had throw a word to other and he adds a word to it and throw it to another person.
2) How to Present, in which we were given a situation and we had to perform on it convey the message to others.
3) How to handle sarcasm, in which the person standing opposite to us said what he didn't like about us and we had to agree for it saying yes. Later all went to Akshaya Restaurant for Lunch.

Role of a lawyer as told by Rambabu: Experienced lawyer who understand VC financing is invaluable. Startups have to safeguard from bad/inexperienced lawyer. Mentor can be helpful in financing, if they know the VCs involved for entrepreneur would be good if we share a small success fee for the mentor.
How to raise money? Startups have to be careful not to go out asking for amount required. Executive summary should be short description of presentation. Bootstrapping, Grants, Bank loans, incubators, venture debts and crowd funding.SEBI registration required. Due Diligence report on the investor. Ask him politely for the reference of other startups they have invested in to know them better. If an investor passes on a deal with us then ask feedback.

Mr. Mukesh Ghatiya presented a brilliant talk with class-room exercises on the topic of “Product Strategy”. The theme of his presentation was that a good Product Strategy helps steer a business towards its mission. A good

strategy should result in a product that solves a problem, and is sustainable on the long-term. It is important to clearly bring out the differentiation the business offers with respect to its competition. It should inspire everybody involved in the business.
A good strategy serves as the Decision Making Framework during execution (what to do when). To construct a good strategy, the business needs to have clear VISION, the PROBLEMS/NEED the business want to address, clarity about TARGET USERS, and knows HOW TO POSITION ITSELF. The BUSINESS GOALS need to be identified, and validated upfront. A BUSINESS PLAN needs to be drawn up to meet the BUSINESS GOALS; STEPS in the PATH/BUSINESS PLAN need to be enumerated. It is also important to enumerate WHAT THE BUSINESS IS NOT. The BOOTCAMPers practiced these concepts, refined their BUSINESS/PRODUCT STRATEGY, and made presentations to Mr. Mukesh.

Germany & Indian Startups
Ms. Amrita Gandikota, and Mr. Uygar Gedik presented details of the different German initiatives Indian Startups can benefit from. The Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (called ‘AHK Indien’ in German) has been helping businesses in India, and Germany since 1956, and has more than 6700 (about 800 German companies included) members. It has 6 offices in India, and one in Duesseldorf. It has an initiative called ‘DEInternational Services’ that provides business services to its members. Another relevant initiative of the IGCC is the Indo-German Training Center that offers a wide variety of training courses. They also facilitate INTERNSHIP (Ausbildung) opportunities in Germany for Indians.
The German-Asian startup platform StartUp AsiaBerlin is a project established by the State of Berlin in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). It is in operation in MANILA, JAKARTA, BANGALORE, and BERLIN.
The next road-show of this initiative in Bangalore is scheduled for Oct. 28-29, 2017. German Companies are BORN GLOBAL, and that provides great opportunities for Indian Startups to go Global by getting into Partnerships with German companies/opening a branch office in Germany.
DENA, Germany’s centre of expertise for energy efficiency, renewable energy and related technologies works with several German & Indian companies create new solutions, technologies, and installations. They may also partially fund some of the projects. The RUHRSUMMIT is an event focused around startups. The RUHRSUMMIT2017 is scheduled for Oct. 19, 20 at Dortmund, Germany.

Title of Talk: Importance of Taxes for Startups
Our perception of paying taxes changed after hearing to Jahanseb Akthar,
commissioner of the Income Tax Department. In our country, we have different
slabs of taxation for salaried employees, it begins at the lowest entry level of 5%
for people earning 2.5 to 5 LPA. The maximum is 30% for people who earn more
than 10 LPA. Evading them is a form of corruption, this is not at all desired for a
proper functioning of the department. The government provides a lot of facilities
for relaxation of taxes under specialized cases. As per the rule passed in 2016,
for start-ups, there is a consecutive three year period for which they are 100%
tax-free. The choice of the years has to be within the first seven years; from the
date, the startup is certified and registered under startup.gov.in website. Once
the startup starts to report a net profit of two crores per year, they are taxable at
a minimum of 8% of their profit. The key is the minimum percentage can be
increased by the payee and it is up to them to pay more taxes. Speaker also
highlighted the impact of cultural diversity in the way tax is paid or not by citizens
of India. The main takeaway is the:

Topic: Google Solve for India
Karthik started to work for ‘Solve for India’ program wing of Google nine months back. The idea that incepted this initiative from the global company such as Google was amazement to the audience. For a company that does so well on a global scale, to sit and discusses micro issues around the diverse group of people they cater to; throws importance back to solving the needs that exist rather than inventing a need and solving it.
The speaker spoke about the process Google used to design the said program wing. Based on research the users were categorized as Global, Strivers, and Seekers. Google followed the trail of opportunity and found a real need to invest in Striver market, which they estimate will over-turn the Chinese Market by 2020. India is the largest Striver market in terms of the huge man power that we can present as a nation.
The takeaway from this session:
1) Interact with the end user and understand the real problem.
2) Research and discuss on the nuances of the problem.
3) Make the solution easily accessible and usable.
4) Be an entrepreneur only if you are solving a compelling need.

This speaker started out the session with Q&A and opened it up to the audience;
To structure the further presentation based on the expectation of the attendees.
There was a discussion on IP issues. Speaker told us about the decision making
steps for the safeguarding of our idea. A patent is an option when you would not
want anyone to infringe and affect your market, but in the healthcare industry or
during need of emergency mass-production the license or patent can be open-
sourced. There are regulatory steps for medical devices that increase the end-

cost of one unit of any kind of device. Speaker also gave us hints on how to
bypass the regulatory, and reduce the pricing of the product we develop.

Talk by Yash Veer, Ashoka Fellowship Director Date: 26th July 2017
It was a long and tiring day of about 4 speakers and finally the vibrant team of
ashoka arrived. Initially participants did not know or hear about social
entrepreneurship, currently most of the startups only think of scaling up or
thinking about the profits the startup is going to make or achieve in the years to
come. Well the ashoka team consisting of Mr Yash veer who was the key
speaker gave a brief introduction of bill drayton the founder of ashoka and what
inspired him to give the name ashoka it was interesting to know the answer. We
got an in depth understanding about the wonderful establishment and the
increment of ashoka fellows, which was astonishing and made us realize that
there are people who work for the betterment of our society. Mr Yash gave
examples of young teenagers. One example being a young teenager from
Mumbai who gave a thought about the slum dwellers living on the footpaths
during a rain but what inspired young entrepreneurs was the solution he came up
with. Another example being two young girls in bangalore who thought about the
water we waste in hotels. This was the longest day we spent in bootcamp class
1, but the day does not end here after we thank Mr Yash we were surprised to

see a wildcard entry entering the hall it was none other than the BMSCE
principal, who was friendly and vibrant his few words of wisdom enlightened
audience to have a wanting to learn more

July 2017 Mr. Ravi Bhola, partner K&S partners, gave a session on
“Effective IP management”.
Speaker gave us various insights about how to patent a technology/ product. Ravi said Disclose what you have innovated, get recognition, license it. It was an eye opener session and an interesting topic post lunch. Ravi highlighted the three important key factors to apply for a patent that is novelty, inventiveness, utility. Ravi spoke about kinds of IPR's, trademark, copyright, contents of a specification, freedom to operate(FTO), and a few more. There was an emphasis on the improvements and the standardizations that have been done in the international patents in accordance with the Paris Treaty. Ravi encouraged the boot-campers also to apply for a patent under a provisional application in India, and then in the coming years filing a patent under PCT and any country out of the 151 allowed, to file another one for commercial usage. The questions and answer session included a lot of queries by the inquisitive candidates, which were answered by Mr. Ravi.

IEEE Ideation to Productization Organized by: IEEE Young Professionals

IEEE Ideation to Productization was held on 29th July 2017 at B M S College of Engineering, Bengaluru. There were Six teams to pitch the ideas on their product development to the jury of 7 members. There were around 10 IEEE members and around 40 non-IEEE members. The following were jury members were

In the morning session, each team got 8 min to pitch their ideas, and 7 min for
question answer from the jury about their idea. The 6-team started their pitch at
10 PM and concluded the session by 12:30 PM. Then the closing ceremony was
headed by Dr. K. Mallikharjuna Babu (Principal BMSCE), Rotary Chairman and
Dr. Dayaprasad Kulkarni and Prof. Abhishek Appaji, Chair of IEEE Young
Professionals Bangalore Section.
Out of 6 pitches 1st prize was awarded to team Beckon with prize money of
Rs.10000/- (team of 5) and 2nd prize was awarded to SARB with Rs.5,000/-
(team of 3) as prize money rest of the 4 teams were given goodies to carry
home. The event had Gala Lunch to all the participants and the guests who
joined the event.
