Each year, pool owners experience the ups and downs of pool
maintenance. Many elements can impact your pool's overall
health, including: chemical levels, water level, pool surface and
pool equipment. We have broken down each season of pool
ownership and how pool owners can stay ahead of the changing
weather patterns. This will not only save you money, but will
help you enjoy your pool even more.
RECOMMENDED CHEMICALS
Dust off the flip flops and sunscreen - summer is right around
the corner! The cold weather is becoming a faded memory,
while excitement is in the air with all the fun pool days ahead!
If your pool hasn't been used in a few months, the chemical
levels will need to be adjusted back to a normal range:
pH: 7.4 - 7.6
Total Alkalinity: 80 - 120 ppm
Chlorine: 2.0 - 4.0 ppm
To ensure that you have a successful and stress-free spring
opening, we have provided the following recommended
chemical checklist:

RECOMMENDED CHEMICALS
Summer - our favorite time of year! After a successful spring
opening, you can now enjoy the fruits of your labor. Our pools
will be in full swing this summer with endless days in the sun!
To cut down on water loss and chemical consumption, make
sure to properly set or automate the filtration system. This will
circulate your water to evenly disperse the pool chemicals;
leaving little time for algae growth. Swimming also keeps your
water moving, so jump on in!
We recommend having the following chemicals on hand to
keep you water balanced through the warmer months:
3" Chlorine Tabs Shock
pH Balancer Calcium Hardness
Algaecide
Pool Perfect· PHOSfree

Routine maintenance is also important for pool equipment and
cleaning supplies. Check your leaf rake for any holes or tears
in the net. Also, make sure your brush has sturdy bristles to
scrub any feisty dirt and algae from the pool walls and steps.
To keep your pool cleaner performing at the optimal level,
check the hose or each hose segment to ensure an airtight
seal.
We recommend keeping the following supplies up-to-date to
ensure clean water and pool surfaces:
Water Test Kit Toys & Floats Brush/Rake/Pole

Late summer swimming can bring some of the best memories by the pool. Though the air may start to cool outside, the warm water of your pool can be a great escape from the inevitable winter months. Free Chlorine (FC) will not burn off as fast due to cooler temps, but make sure to keep it in the recommended range to avoid an unsightly algae bloom or cloudy water.
Make sure to keep up with the following chemicals while eextending your swimming season:

WINTER CLOSING & WINTER MAINTENANCE
Now it’s time to protect your investment through the winter months, while ensuring an easy spring opening next year. The following chemical recommendations will put your pool in a good place before the cold weather is here.
**For those experiencing sub-32 degree temps and have not closed and covered their pool, remember to routinely check the chemical levels, circulate the water to avoid freezing pipes. You may still want to close your pool by: installing a winter or safety cover, turning off main power source to pool equipment, disconnect and remove drain plugs in filtration system, add winter plugs to valve and skimmer outputs, and add pool anti-ffreeze to avoid freezing pipes and plumbing.
It is always a good idea to keep the following pool chemicals handy before and during the colder winter months:
Closing a swimming pool may be a burden, but you will thank yourself next spring! It is important to properly protect your pool from any potential damage over the winter months.
Here is a list of recommended products to keep your pool and equipment protected all winter-long:

STORMMAINTENANCE
The inevitable storm can happen any time of the year; no matter where you live. After removing all debris (tree branch-es, leaves, dirt, etc.), it is important to balance your water as soon as possible to avoid unwanted algae blooms, cloudy water, or surface stains.
Rain water may be highly acidic, causing the water’s pH level to drop. Chlorine will also begin working harder to attack the new pollutants. The following chemicals are typically used when balancing pool water after a rain storm:
FUN FACT:The acidity level in rain is usually higher in urban areas due to the burning of fossil fuels, vehicles and manufacturing. Snow, fog, hail and dust can also be acidic, lowering your pool water’s pH level.
Storms can quickly impact your pool water, as well as pool equipment. Depending on where you live in the country, you may experience one or several large storms each year. Always skim leaves and debris from the water surface and pool floor. It is also important to empty the filter basket and pump basket before and after running the filtration system.
HHere is a list of recommended products to help recover from a storm:
pH Increaser Alkalinity Increaser Clarifier
Algaecide Shock Chlorine
Water Test Kit Leaf Rake/Brush Skimmer Basket

CHEMICAL GLOSSARY OF TERMS
Kill/Prevent Algae Growth - Algaecide is used to kill algae on pool sur-faces. Algae can stain and deteriorate pool surfaces, create cloudy water and clog filtration systems.
1 qt. bottle
CHEMICAL CONTAINER SIZE
Algaecide
Increase Calcium Hardness - Water Hardness Increaser helps bring calcium levels to their ideal range. The right water hardness prevents corrosion of your pool and equipment.
Calcium Hardness 10 lb. bucket
Increase Free Chlorine - Tri-Chlor Chlorine Tabs work to neutralize bacteria and contaminants for clean and clear water. Tri-Chlor tabs dis-solve slowly and contain CYA to protect against UV consumption.
Chlorine Tabs 50 lb. bucket
Increased Water Clarity - Clarifiers are used in cloudy pools to help tiny unwanted particles bond together and become more easily filtered out.
Clarifier 1 qt. bottle
Increase CYA - Conditioners are used to stabilize and protect chlorine from UV sunlight burn-off.
CYA/Conditioner
25 lb. bucket
Prevent Water Evaporation - Liquid Solar chemicals significantly reduce water evaporation and heat loss by creating an invisible barrier on the water surface.
pH Adjustment
One 16 oz. Pill
Raise or Lower pH - pH Increaser will raise pH to ideal levels and will slow the rapid loss of chlorine. pH Reducer lowers pH to ideal levels and boosts chlorine's ability to fight bacteria and algae.
PhosFree
25 lb. bucket
Maintain zero phosphates - PhosFREE is a non-toxic solution to break down organic contamints, dead algae, and phophates. PhosFREE will maintain the phosphate level near zero.
Shock*: Cal-Hypo
3 ltr. bottle
Increase Free Chlorine - Cal-Hypo shock is ideal for destroying bacte-ria, algae, and organic waste caused by high temperatures or increased pool usage. Great for Spring Opening and weekly shock treatment.
Shock*: Chlor-Free
50 lb. bucket
Reduce Combined Chlorine - Chlor-Free is an alternative pool shock to help keep your water clean without chlorine odors. Typically used for spas and indoor pools.
Shock*: Di-Chlor
12-pack bags
Increase Free Chlorine - Stabilized chlorine has been treated with CYA to protect against UV rays. Di-Chlor is perfect for use in hot climates and pools that receive full sun for most of the day.
