A operational actor. Is a man or a woman who can justified ten years of working experience as a project manager or work supervisor in different kind of construction and industrial activities. After following a specific formation given by independent body as laid down is the work law the successful candidate can officially became a safety coordinator. This agreement is valid for five years. All the safety coordination documents have a juridic value and engage not only his responsibility but that of the organization. The documents can be consulted on request by the authorities. M. Arnaud, C. Bedel, J. Etheridge, E.

CERN Safety Coordination

Mission and Role

MISSION Ensure that all safety measures are applied at all stages of the project.

Assist the project leader, the project manager, the work supervisor, the contractors, in matters of safety.

Assess risks in particular those stemming from co-activities and successive activities.

Get things done in a safe way in the interest of the organization.

M. Arnaud, C. Bedel, J. Etheridge, E. Paulat

THE PRIORITIES ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS IN

ORDER OF PRIORITY Ensure the safety of the personnel working for LS1. Activities connected to the accelerators chain. Activities to optimize reliability of the LHC, experimental caverns, including maintenance and consolidation of the injectors. Approved activities related to the scientific program connected to the LHC. All other activities.

M. Arnaud, C. Bedel, J. Etheridge, E. Paulat

ROLE

We take into account all the risks, resulting from co-activity and successive activities.

We ensure that the general principles of prevention are implemented.

We endeavor to prevent incidents and accidents.

Our work is based upon the information provided by CERN staff members, collaborators, users, work package contractors…

M. Arnaud, C. Bedel, J. Etheridge, E. Paulat

GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF PREVENTIONEuropean directives

Avoid risks. Assess unavoidable risks. Tackle risks at the source. Adapt working conditions to the worker. Keep up to date with technical developments. Replace dangerous items with safe ones, or ones that are less dangerous. Plan preventive measures as part of a whole preventive approach. Give priority to collective protective measures over individual ones. Provide instructions for the workers.

CERN Safety Coordination

How does the Safety coordination operate

Work, tests, interventions, are :Planned. A notice to start work are issued (AOC-IMPACT) A Health and Safety Protection Plan is produced, issued and commented upon.(PPSPS, Pdp, PCTS,Fdt) Work package analyses meetings are arranged : ALARA, DIMR, consignations, hot work permit, IS 37 etc… A Joint Inspection is then carried out Site visits are carried throughout the duration of the works
