Elementary students share their recipe for fun
During the month of April, foodservice provider Sodexo held a recipe contest for kids at
Central Elementary. Students were asked to submit recipes that are easy to prepare,
healthy, and tasty. The kids stepped up to the challenge.
Students were divided into three groups according to grade. Two recipes were chosen from
each age category. Mark Havericak, Sodexo Food Service Director, and his staff recreated
the recipes. Student Council assumed the role of taste testers and voted on their favorite
recipes.
Luca Gogel’s recipe for fruit pizza won first place in the kindergarten-first grade category.
Katie Robinson was the winner among the second and third graders for her frozen yogurt
pops recipe. Emilie Siclovan submitted a recipe for sweet potato oven fries, giving her a
winning status in the fourth and fifth grade category.
The three winners received a certificate and a tomato plant. In addition, students at Central
had the opportunity to sample the winning recipes. Central Elementary food service staff members Michelle
Beaudrie (left) and Whitney Betz (right) present Katie
Robinson (center) with a certificate and prize for her
winning entry in the recipe contest.

Beginning in the Fall of 2011, a group of students in
grades 11 and 12 will have the opportunity to learn new
skills in a Construction Trades elective course at Mason
High School. The instructor will teach students about a

UPDATE ON SENIOR AIRMAN JARED ENGLAND
As many may recall, at the District’s last Veterans’ Day
celebration, Skype was used to connect with Mason
graduate Jared England who was stationed in Afghanistan
at the time. In January, Jared paid a brief visit to the Ma-
son High School students who interviewed him during the
Veterans’ Day celebration. He really enjoyed meeting the
students in person. Staff member Carolyn England, who
is also Jared’s mother, stated that Jared is doing well. He
is now stationed at Kunsan Air Base in South Korea and
will be there until February 2012. Jared will be granted a
short visit home this July.
