lyceum competition - empire state building

While rethinking an o�ce building into a multigenerational community, the main concern becomes the adequation of the space to a new demand of needs, associated with the development of public spaces with the new residential program. In this project, the main approach is the replacement of dark corridors by lite “floating street” above gardens that connects the vertical circulation, the units and the public spaces. Using a module of six floors, the arrangement of the units aims the maximum entrance of natural light, in order to allow the gardens to do the photosynthesis, also for the environmental comfort, the health of the space and economy of resources. Moreover, the core behaves as a solid mass that regulates the growing of the building. The shape of the new Empire State is nothing but the relation of addition and subtraction between the common areas and dwelling.

The intervention is articulated troughout a six floors system that creates a range of comunities surrounded by a vertical forest on the heart of Manhattan.
