Important Things

Schedule Changes • Two weeks to change schedule

• No schedule changes after Sept. 6th • See counselors before school or after

school only

Sept . 6

Attendance Come to school every

day!

If you are sick or must miss: • A phone call or note from a

parent is required for all excused absences

• 48 hour notice to office for personal a day – Only one personal day per

year

More About Attendance

• Doctor’s note required after 7th absence to be excused

• Filing in court begins after 5th unexcused absence – Go to court after 10th unexcused absence

Saturday School • Required after 4 absences in a given class

• Every day absent after 4 days must be made up hour for hour.

• Come to school now and keep your Saturdays for yourself!

To Be Exempt From Semester Exams:

• No more than 3 absences (excused or unexcused) per class with 85 average

• Perfect attendance: – Another chance to exempt – 70 average or above

• 3rd tardy – loss of exemption in that class

VOE Forms for Driver ’s License

• 48 Hours Notice to office to pick up form

• You will NOT be issued a VOE form if you were absent 8 days in prior semester

• VOE form needed until the age of 18

Pirates of the Month How they are chosen….

• Each month chosen by a different team of teachers – Commendable work ethic, enthusiasm and engagement in class,

willingness to help others – peers as well as adults, all around great kid

• October – Social Studies • November – CTE (Technology, Ag, Building Trades, & Family

Consumer Science) • December – ELA • January – Art • February – Science • March – Foreign Language • April – Math • May – Fine Arts

Textbooks and Calculators

• If either are lost or stolen - you pay! – Even if stolen from your locker! – Average replacement cost of calculator = $100 – Average replacement cost of textbook = $100

• Keep textbooks covered – You will be pay for any damage!

Passing Periods and Tardies • Passing periods are 5

minutes – Don’t stand or block traffic

during this time – Tardy after A, B, or C lunch =

automatic detention! • Tardies

– 1st = warning – 2nd = detention – 3rd = loss of exemption – 4 or more tardies =

• disciplinary action determined by an administrator

Hall Roaming • Must have a pass from teacher to be out of class • During morning tutorials

– 1 trip to locker – Stay in commons or outside front courtyard – Not allowed in either gym during morning tutorials

• Hall roamers will be sent to office – No argument!

Morning Tutorials • Tutorials are mandatory if assigned by a

teacher! – Discipline consequences will occur if not attended.

•8:20-8:50 is part of the school day

– If you enjoy that time off you must take care of your business!

Pride in Our School Facilities

• Clean up after yourself in cafeteria – Even if trash is not yours, please pick it up.

• Stay off the grass and out of the flowerbeds • Don’t throw your trash out in the parking lot or on

school grounds before/after school • How you leave things and use things is part of our

school pride

Pirate Rallies • Pirate Rallies

– Have fun! – Get excited and be

involved! – If you have a strong

desire not to attend, you will be assigned to a study hall

• Assemblies – Best behavior is always

required

Parking Stickers • $35 per year • Reserved parking space all

year! MUST buy a parking sticker to bring your car to school.

• Sold in the office before or after school

• Do Not park in a numbered spot without a sticker – All spaces are reserved – Your car may be booted if

you do not have a parking sticker or park in someone else’s spot!

Student Parking • Students are only allowed to park in the

numbered parking lot. – Not by the Ag building – Not by the field house – Not by the cemetery – Not by the old baseball field – Not by the tennis courts

– Not anywhere else!

School & Athletic Lockers • Lockers • Sign up for a locker in the office • Use your own – your things will be removed if

they are found in someone else’s locker • USE A LOCK. • It’s the only way to keep your things safe! • Keep your athletic locker locked also! • Random locker checks will be done. • Lost & Found • 2 Bins in office

Cell Phone Use • When Cell phones may be Used

– In the commons and outside before and after school and during lunch.

– BUT NO PHONE CALLS! Go to the office to receive/place ALL phone calls anytime while at school.

• Teachers will take up phones if used in class unless given permission by teacher.

• When asked by a teacher to hand over your cell phone, DO IT. – Phone will be in office for you to pick up at the end of

the school day. – Will cost you $15 to get it back!!

Use of Electronic Devices • NO electronic devices of any kind will be

allowed in the seven hallways beyond the double doors. – This includes ear buds and ear phones.

• KEEP OUT OF SIGHT IN THE HALLS! – Device will be taken up and $15 will be

charged to get it back at the end of the day.

– Signs are or will be posted above the doorways into the halls to remind you.

Electronic Devices • Bring at your own risk.

– If lost or stolen, there will be NO lengthy investigation

• Can be used before school, during lunch, & after school - in commons or outside only!

• Do NOT have out during passing periods.

• Teachers will decide if & when allowed in their classroom.

Closed Campus • Do NOT invite your family or

friends! • No visitors • Do not go out into the parking

lot during lunch – Must get a office pass to go to

your car anytime during the school day including lunch time

• No food or drinks outside before school or during lunch

• NO food deliveries from restaurants

– Parents may bring food to their child only

Seniors -Do Not bring food for other people!!!

Emergency Drills • Must be taken seriously

– Never ignore an emergency signal

• Follow your teacher’ s directives • Consequences for misbehavior

AEP Offenses Zero Tolerance Policy

• Drugs • Alcohol • Fighting • Gangs

• Includes student behavior on all school property

• Includes athletic events and special school related events such as prom, football games, etc.

Sexual Harassment and Bullying • All students are entitled to attend school in a

hostile free environment • No inappropriate comments, gestures, or

innuendos of any kind will be tolerated • Immediate discipline consequences for this

type of behavior

Sexual Harassment and& Bullying • If you are a victim of

sexual harassment or bullying you must tell someone

– Report to one of the principals, one of the counselors or a trusted teacher

– We can only help you if we know about harassment or bullying

• We will always follow up on a report

Sexual Harassment and Bullying • Steps will be taken

to stop inappropriate behavior

• This is a right due to all students and employees.

– We take this very seriously

– So be careful. Something said or done jokingly could have very serious consequences.

Cyber Bullying • Can have school discipline

consequences, even if posted on Internet outside of school

• Possible law enforcement involvement

• Remember, once something is posted – anyone can see it.

• Good rule of thumb…..Would you want your grandma to see what you posted?

Discipline • Cheating

– Not tolerated! – Zero on that assignment – Day of ISS

• Foul language – Not tolerated – If directed at an adult,

• Automatic 3 day suspension

• Parents notified

Discipline • TOBACCO & Electronic

Cigarettes – Not tolerated! – Cannot use at school or anywhere on school campus – Not allowed before school or after school – Cannot have on your person or in your vehicle – ISS or more severe consequences

Discipline on Buses • Referral from bus driver

– 1st offense - warning from campus principal & contact parent

– 2nd offense – lunch detention or ISS, parent contact

• Repeated inappropriate behavior will result in removal from the bus

More on Buses • You can only ride your bus. • You cannot ride any other buses. • Friends cannot ride your bus.

PDA (Public Display of Affection) • YUK! It grosses the rest of

us out! • No kissing or holding

hands-keep your hands off each other!

• If you are warned more than once, expect discipline consequences

Student Medications • ALL meds must be taken to the nurse’s

office – Even over the counter meds, such as

Tylenol, Midol, etc. • If you know you will need medication from

time to time, bring some to the nurse’s office so you can use it when you need it.

• Violation could result in severe disciplinary consequences (ISS or DAEP)

Prohibited Clothing • Pictures, emblems, or writings

on clothing that are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene. – Tobacco products, alcoholic

beverages, drugs, or any other prohibited substances

– Satanic, cult, or gang activities/symbols

• Sagging pants, shorts, skirts – Must be worn at the

waist

• Oversized t-shirts • Chains • Sunglasses in the

building – (unless a doctor’s note is

given to office/nurse)

Prohibited Clothing cont. • Bicycle shorts or

other types of clothing that is excessively tight

• Torn clothing, including holes in jeans – Must be patched on

the inside – Tights under jeans

instead of patching NOT allowed

Prohibited Clothing cont. • Underwear or tank

top type shirts • Muscle shirts or

shirts with the sleeves cut out

• Fishnet shirts • Strapless dresses

unless covered by a jacket

Prohibited Clothing cont. • Half-shirts or shirts

that show any part of the midriff

• Cut-off shorts – all shorts must be

hemmed

• Dresses, skirts, & shorts must fall in the knee area – must not be higher than

two inches above the knee

• Leggings, yoga pants, workout pants, and workout capris – Shirt must be

longer than your bottom • Front and

back!

Continued • Skinny jeans

must be made out of denim in order to wear the shorter type of shirts

Continued • Tights and thin leggings

must be worn with a shirt or dress that falls within the knee region

• (If you can see through the tights/leggings, then follow this rule!)

Prohibited Clothing cont. • Shower shoes or house shoes • Hats or any other type of head wear

– Unless worn on an approved hat day – All hats and caps will be confiscated if they

are seen in the building

Prohibited Clothing cont. • Any suggestive or indecent

clothing • Earrings or other ear

ornaments on male students

• Nose, eyebrow, or tongue rings by any student

• Gauges must be solid – Not allowed on male students

• Tattoos must be covered – Nurse will NOT furnish anything

to cover tattoos

Hair Rules • Facial hair - guys

– Must be clean shaven at all times

– No mustaches or beards

– Sideburns no lower than the bottom of the ear lobe

• Repeat offenders will be disciplined

More Hair Rules • Hair must be clean,

well groomed, and not covering the eyes

• Hair must be maintained so that it is off the face.

• Males are not allowed to wear headbands

And Even More Hair Rules… • Following are prohibited:

– Any design or line cut or shaved in hair

– Non-natural color variations in hair – Longer than collared shirt neckline

in back (males) – No Mohawks or Fohawks – Pony tails, rat tails, buns, or braids

of any kind (males) – Any hair extremity that is deemed

questionable by administration

“THE PRINCIPAL RESERVES THE RIGHT OF DISCRETION ON ANY AND ALL DRESS CODE ISSUES AND MAY TAKE ACTION ON THOSE. A student who violates the dress code shall be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school. If not corrected, the student shall be assigned to in school suspension either for the remainder of the day or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school. Repeat offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action.”
