1. When & Where To Groom

• Plan for enough time to groom your dog comfortably and efficiently.

• Make sure the dog is well exercised and potties.• Find a place that you can secure

the dog safely. – I prefer a grooming table because it is made for the

process and it is easier on your back. – Remember never leave a dog unattended

on a grooming table. 

2. Getting Ready

Have all of your Grooming Supply ready• These tools include:

– A tie to secure the pet – Ear powder – Hemostats – Ear cleaner – Nail trimmer or Nail grinder – Blood stop– Brushes – Metal comb – De-matting tools – Shampoo & conditioner – Towels, Blow dryer – Clippers & Scissors.

• Make sure the tub and table are ready too.

1. Look under the nail for where the nail splits.

2. Stay in front of where the nail splits, closer to the tip and clip.

3. Take a small amount at a time. Oster Gentle Paws works well!

4. You do not want to cut the Dermis only the Epidermis.

4. Brushing

• Brush and rake a small amount of dead hair and remove matting before the bath

•  When a pet’s skin is wet, it becomes more pliable and releases additional dead coat.

5. Check your Pet’s Eyes

• Be proactive and keep the dogs eyes cleaned daily.

• If the discharge accumulates in the corner of the eye, remove it by soaking during the bath and either: – wipe with a cloth – use a grooming comb to remove 

6. Bath Time

• Place your pet in a tub and secure him.• Wet your pet• Apply shampoo, add water, and massage

into coat.• Lather• Rinse thoroughly until you hear or feel a

squeak.• Add conditioner if needed

7. Ear Care• Ear infections are common in pets.• Clean ears during the bathing process.

– Gently pluck– Fill ears with cleaner and let the dog shake it out– Wipe with dry cotton– Add a few drops of ear

clean after bath– Pack ears with fresh cotton

for drying• Note: If there is ear drum damage,

do NOT flush the ear canal

8. Dry the Pet

• Be sure to brush the coat while drying• Towel dry • Then blow dry   

9. The Clip

• Make sure the dog is brushed and tangle free.

• Clipping and trimming after the dog is dry and brushed will produce the best results.

• Trim your pet according to the confirmation of the dog, the breed standard, and its coat type.
