Space as a void

The building is give emphasis by its central position at the front of the school with easy access from the carpark.

Space as a void

The circulations desk is visible from the entrance, the lower level and the mezzanine above.

Space as a continuum

Space as a continuum

A sense of transparency, inviting the outside in.

Space as a continuum

The library’s curved lines and open spaces invite movement through and around the various learning spaces.

Curves were incorporated into the walls and furnishings of the meeting room. Glass windows to the inside and outside create a space continuum.

Space as a continuum

Space as a continuum

Informal and flexible arrangement of furniture.

Perceptual and multi-sensory space

Use of shapes, lines, textures, colours and height

Perceptual and multi-sensory space

Use of light and shade, colour contrast, and a variety of textures.

Psycho/social space

Contrast between:

• Upstairs and downstairs kitchenettes

• Inside and outside seating

Psycho/social space

Narrow, straight passage ways with no furnishings or images remind us not to linger in entrances and walkways.

Psycho/social space

Different forms of seating for different purposes.

Psycho/social spacePartitions and doors to imply security and privacy .

Political spaceReserved for staff!

Reserved for staff!

Symbols of routine, power and control

Political spaceSpacious workspace, with flexible furnishings with curved lines and an abundance of technology gives a sense that discussion, cooperation, participation, collaboration and futures thinking are valued.

Existential space

The clinical, inaccessible displays fail to give a homely feel of ‘belonging’ or place.

Existential space

Comfortable, furniture upholstered in colourful soft fabrics evokes memories of familiar places.
