Fashion @ the GalleryFriday, May 1, 2015

The Fashion Department honored the design students at the Annual Fashion Show at the college’s Mount Holly Center and Student Art Gallery on Friday, May 1.

In conjunction with the opening of the 16th Annual Student Art & Design Exhibition, the fashion design stu-dents hosted an evening of informal modeling to show off their creations. This year, each student was challenged by their professors to create garments for the ready to wear market. Each finished garment was representative of the student’s passion and creativity in fashion design.

Family and friends gathered to enjoy the student Fashion Show, which incorporated themes such as NYC night-life; the beauty and grace of Jackie O, gothic architecture; Japanese pop music and Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

The students came up with themes for their collection by first sketching their fashions, then pattern drafting, and fabric selection. Fabric choices for these collections had a key influence in the drape and fit of the garments designed. Outstanding fabrics in the finished garments included laser cut florals, reverse sided sequins, dyed human hair, beaded lace and microfibers.

Awards were given to the following students:

The American Sewing Guild—Excellence in Design: Gean Machado for Extravagance (black and white printed stretch cotton, and reversible black and silver sequin, jumpsuit).

The American Sewing Guild—Excellence in Construction: Raven Williams for Mystery (floral print on denim blazer matched with pants and tank top).

The American Sewing Guild—Young Designer: Kieun Kwon for Modern Royalty (dress of grey jacquard with petal pink side panels and wrapped with a tulle bow).

The Fashion Club Award for Excellence in Day or Evening Dress—Donna Hayes for Hair Me Out (snake skin print skirt paired with a crop top with dyed human hair).

The Fashion Club Award for Excellence in Sportswear—Teresa Duckworth for SurfLass (microfiber board shorts matched with multi colored sweatshirt).

Best Collection Award—Philip Tum Suden for his full collection of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

Fashion Achievement Award—Kara Kummer.

The American Red Cross Best “Power of the Purse” Award—Katie Opperman.

Congratulations to the winners and to all of our talented fashion designers at RCBC!
