London’s Air Ambulance treats
critically injured people every day in
London. We are a charity and money
raised from schools like yours helps
us deliver the best possible care to
our patients and ultimately helps
save lives.
Your support will help to keep our
helicopters in the air and our rapid
response cars on the road – ready
for when we are needed most.
Why we needyour help
• We deliver an advanced trauma doctor andparamedic to critically injured people inLondon.
• We bring the hospital directly to our patientsby providing medical treatment at the sceneof the incident that you would normally onlyfind in the hospital Emergency Department.
• We are here for the 10 million people wholive, work and travel within the M25.
• We operate 24 hours a day, seven days aweek, and 365 days a year, so that thepeople of London are never without adedicated advanced trauma team, shouldthe worst happen.
• We reach our patients by helicopter indaylight hours and rapid response cars atnight or in adverse weather conditions.
• We treat an average of five critically injuredpatients every 24 hours.
• Our average flight time is 6.7 minutes.
• When heading out on a mission we aregranted priority over every other aircraft. Airtraffic control will clear a way for us so thatwe can reach our patients as quickly aspossible.
• Our helipad, at The Royal London Hospital,is 284ft up off the ground.
• We have treated over 33,000 patients sinceour live-saving service began in 1989.

Did you know?
Annie is 10 years old. London's AirAmbulance treated her Dad, Michael, after he slipped off a ladder at theirfamily home and plunged more thanfive metres, landing on his back.
“When I heard the helicopter landing behind my house I knew I
was in the best possible hands and everything that could be
done, would be done.” says Michael.
“I could feel my legs which was a big relief but the pain in my
right hip was unbearable. The paramedics gave me pain killers,
including morphine but it was only when the doctor from
London's Air Ambulance gave me ketamine that they were able
to put me on the stretcher. We were at The Royal London
Hospital in four minutes.
Living and working in London, I have seen London’s Air
Ambulance many times. But you don’t think this is going to
happen to you until… well, it happens.”
Since her Dad’s accident Annie and all the family have been
supporting the charity that has had such a huge impact on their
lives. In fact Annie is such a fan of London’s Air Ambulance that
when she was recently given homework to suggest some things for
people to do on a visit to London, our charity got a starring role.

Sandra watched as her12-year-old daughter Caitlinstepped in front of a bus.“There was a bang andCaitlin fell to the ground”
says Sandra, who wasshaking and screaming as
every parent’s worst nightmareunfolded in front of her.
“I was so shaken that I initially couldn’t leave the car. Hayley,
Caitlin’s sister, immediately ran to her side. She never left her,
even when the emergency services arrived, she held Caitlin’s
hand throughout.
A paramedic from the London Ambulance Service told me that
Caitlin had a head injury. When I heard the helicopter I thought –
it must be really serious. The helicopter landed in the school’s
playground and the doctor decided to fly Caitlin to the hospital.
I have three daughters. I have never been the kind of parent who
constantly worries that they might get hit by a car or that
something could happen to them. I never even dreamt London's
Air Ambulance was a service we would need. You never think it
would happen to you but when it does, you realise how
important London's Air Ambulance is. The charity is invaluable.
The children from Caitlin’s school saw the helicopter land and
their response was humbling. They wrote a letter to London's Air
Ambulance asking how much a helicopter mission costs and
decided to raise the equivalent. Caitlin’s friends went to their local
churches and explained what had happened. One of the boys
did a fundraising bike ride, there was a sponsored sleep over and
countless bake sales. In the end they beat their target and raised
almost £5000.”
Caitlin and the school’s representatives visited our helipad to
hand over their donation to the crew.

FundraisingGuidelinesThank you for your interest in fundraising forLondon's Air Ambulance. Fundraising inschools offers children a positiveopportunity for involvement in helpingothers by raising money for a good cause.Of course it should be fun but we want tomake sure you stay safe and legal.
Here are some importantthings to remember:
• Insurance - you will need to ensure that you have public
liability insurance for any event in which members of the public
will participate. Some venues will have this included in their
venue insurance so check with them to see what is covered.
• Gambling licenses - a gambling license should not be
necessary for a one off raffle or a tombola however if you are
planning something more it’s worth checking with the
Gambling Commission at gamblingcommission.gov.uk to
see if you’ll need one for your event.
• Alcohol licenses - may be required if you intend to sell
alcohol, check with the Alcohol Licensing body at
homeoffice.gov.uk/drugs/alcohol/ to see if you’ll require one.
• Music licenses - a PRS license will be needed to play music
in a public place however most venues will already have one so
check with them to see what is already covered.
• Food - no license is currently needed to sell food at a one-off
event however all food distributed or sold will need to comply
with the Food Safety Act so please use common sense and
prepare and store food in a safe and hygienic manner. It is also
worth considering that event guests may have allergies and
need to know the ingredients that have been used.
• Operational health & safety - consider any potential risks
to your attendees and your team. Please make sure that you
don’t take any unnecessary risks and that your event is run in the
safest possible manner. You may need to consider whether your
fundraising activities require you to conduct a risk assessment.
Guidelines around when a risk assessment is needed and
how to conduct one can be found at hse.gov.uk/risk/.
• Collecting donations - please do not collect money
door-to-door as this is illegal without a licence.
• Fundraising events - if people taking part are under 18,
please check with parents or guardians before undertaking any
fundraising events. Young people under 16 must be
accompanied by an adult if collecting money from the public in
a street collection. DBS checks may be required, further
information is available at gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check.
• First aid - think about the number of people attending your
event and the potential risk of any accidents. It may be
sufficient to have a qualified first aider on duty or you may
need to contact St John’s Ambulance to have a team on-site.
• Security - where will you store the money you make and/or
any valuable items? Who will have access to this and how
will it be transported should you need to move it around?
• Ethics - please ensure that the activities you are planning
are not of an exploitive or discriminatory nature and do not in
any way promote harm to an individual or the environment.
• Managing incoming funds - please make sure that the
money you raise or collect reaches London's Air Ambulance
safely and as quickly as possible.
Always make sure that all the money is counted by two
people. Make cheques payable to ‘London's Air Ambulance’.
Don’t forget to include your name, the school’s name,
address, postcode and details of your fundraising and the
amount raised so that we can thank you properly.

• Disclaimer - All of the above information is intended as
guidance only. Full consideration should always be given to
each event and the relevant local authorities and other
interested parties should be consulted.
If you have any questions or are at allworried about any of these points pleaseget in touch with us, we’d be happy to help.
