Jin Mao Tower is located in Pudong, Shanghai, China. It started getting built in 1994 and ended in 1999.
FUN FACT
I used to live in Shanghai and I have been up in the Jin Mao tower. My favorite pizza is in Jin Mao tower.
This building has offices, a deluxe 5-star hotel - the Grand Hyatt Shanghai, exhibition halls, banquet halls, an observation deck, and entertainment facilities.
FUN FACT The 88th floor-the highest floor, is reserved for the tower's observation deck, which can hold 1000 people at any one time.
The buildingresembles a traditionalChinesepagodagrowingin height. The dimensions of the buildingarebasedon the number 8: 88 floors (really 94 ifyoucountthem all, includingthe needle and basement); 800 parkingspaces in basement; 8 restaurants; 87 rooms….
FUN FACT:
The number 8 in Buddhism is a luckynumber, associatedwithprosperity, economy, gold and trade.
It was not easy to buildsuch a tallbuilding: The foundation rest on 1,062 steel piles driven 83.5 m deep in the ground. A 4 m-thick concrete raft caps the piles 19.6m underground. The basement's surrounding wall is 1 m thick, 36 m high and 568 m long, and made of reinforced concrete.
FUN FACT
At the time those were the longest steel piles ever used in a land-based building.
It started in 1994 and ended in 1999. So it took 5 years
NOT SO FUN FACT
On October 5, 2004 during Chinese National Day Holiday, a group of base jumpers jumped from the top of the tower. 34-year old Australian jumper Roland "Slim" Simpson had a parachute malfunction and crashed on an opposite building. He fell into a coma, and died October 22.
"Jin Mao" means "Golden Prosperity" or “golden
luxuriance.” in Chinese.
FUN FACT:
Jin Mao Tower is the 13th tallestbuilding in the world
Adrian D. Smith. He has also made the BurjKhalifa, which lies in Dubai, is the tallest building in the world.
FUN FACT:The building has an advanced structural engineering system of wind and earthquake engineering which fortify it against typhoon winds of up to 200 km/h (with the top swaying by a maximum of 75 cm) and earthquakes of up to 7 on the Richter scale.

Man has beenimprovingbuildingskills: From 150 meters in 2540BC to almost 900 meters in 2009
It took man kind almost 5000 years to build from 150 meters to 324 meters
For 25 years (from 1973 to 1999) buildingstopped at 450-550 meters
Only the last 10 years, buildingsarenowexploding in height – gettingclose to 1 kilometer
If it tookmankind 25 years to get to 500 meters tallbuildings, then it will at leasttakemankindanother25 years to stabilizearound 1000 meters.
If this is correct, thenwewillonlybeable to build more than 1 kilometer tallbuildingsafteryear 2035
Canwebuild 2 kilometer tallbuildings in 2050?
