Sustainable SoluEons • The scale of problems creates the need to harness the
widest possible set of resources for problem solving involving diverse types of knowledge, resources parEcipaEon and collaboraEon.
• SoluEons need to harness the moEvaEon of millions of individuals and their communiEes. SoluEons cannot be pushed down at people to force changing behavior.

Living Labs
Living Labs are a user-‐driven open innovaEon eco-‐system where the user (ciEzen, resident, worker, student, visitor, customer) lives, works, studies, plays and entertains. In this real living environment, the user co-‐creates, experiments and tests new ideas, products and services. User centric
soluEons and social innovaEon processes lead to new forms of producEvity and compeEEveness as well as sustainable behaviour transformaEon.

Smart CiEes • CiEes are being transformed by the impact of globalizaEon and rapid
technological evoluEon. Sustainable Urban Well Being trends are emerging driven by the direct parEcipaEon of the ciEzens. This includes user behaviour transformaEon achieved by the parEcipatory environment enabled by the Living Labs and implemented by innovaEve collaboraEve SMEs.
• CiEes are increasingly becoming dynamic Living Environments requiring the capacity to enable and adapt to fast technological, societal and cultural changes. Living Lab collaboraEon methodologies can be the answer to address these changes and support the engagement and exploitaEon of business opportuniEes by SMEs.
• Sustainable Energy and mobility are important trends of the emerging Well Being Urban Living Lab Paradigm. Local energy micro-‐generaEon, distribuEon (Smart Metering/Smart Grid) and storage require new business models and new policies where innovaEve SMEs can have a major role in the experimentaEon, implementaEon and exploitaEon of the new emerging business enabled by Future Internet, Internet of Things and Social InnovaEon.

Conclusions (1/3) • The big global challenges of our Eme demand mass parEcipaEon
of users/consumers/ciEzens. Finding soluEons to climate change, managing demographic shiVs, presenEng and managing chronic diseases, providing safe water supplies and maintaining food security will require the pooling of diverse types of knowledge and resources, and harnessing the moEvaEon of millions of individuals and their communiEes.
• Technologies are not sufficient to resolve the challenges in a sustainable way, user behaviour transformaEon is required and this can be enabled by the use of ICT and the Living Lab methodologies.
• GlobalizaEon of ENoLL facilitates InternaEonal partnerships which contribute to enhance business opportuniEes, also contribuEng to a stable and sustainable mutual development. ENoLL vision is to support and encourage this approach on a global scale.

Conclusions (2/3) • Europe needs to address its poliEcal integraEon leading to more
Europe. The current crisis has uncovered hidden fragiliEes but also fostered new soluEons. Regions such as Danube and cross-‐border collaboraEon using Living Lab methodologies can accelerate a faster and more effecEve integraEon.
• The European RDI policies encourage the use of Living Lab eco-‐systems and methodologies to achieve faster and more efficient results.
• UniversiEes need to be more involved with the other stakeholders of the innovaEon system. Technology is important but needs to be complemented with other knowledge and experEse such as entrepreneurship culture and innovaEon and business pracEces.

Conclusions (3/3) • Brazil culture can enable the co-‐creaEve innovaEon environment of
Living Labs.
• The Brazilian Network of Living Labs has reached a criEcal mass of 10 Living Labs, the largest outside Europe. At least another 10 are emerging for the 5th Call.
• Brazil is a natural and strategic partner of EU for historical, social, economical and technological reasons.
• Crea-vity, experimenta-on, emo-on, social innova-on, happiness and well being are intrinsic to the Brazilian culture and also drive the Living Labs user-‐driven innova-on.
• Living Labs methodologies and ENoLL provide a powerful opportunity to accelerate the Innova-on Strategy in Brazil and reinforce new bridges of collabora-on with Europe. That’s part of our mission.
