Uh one, A Two, Uh One Two: Am F Am F Am G Ohhhh...
Life, is bigger, bigger than You and You are not Me. The lengths that I will go to, The distance in your eyes
Oh no I said too much, I set it up
You’ll have to picture Michael Stipe’s unique arm fluctua-tions in your mind as I for once can give a completely accurate interpretation of the meaning of this song to you, my faithful readers. I rarely watch television, but when I do, a force guides me to what I need to see on that infernal computer driven monstrosity.
Last month my channel search found R.E.M. By M.T.V. on The Music Channel Station. From what I gathered, all of R.E.M.’s songs are credited to all four members of the group. The word genius comes to mind. The arrange-ment avoids the long vicious battles over royalties that groups like The Band’s Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm endure until the day they die, and continue even past then by their heirs. Many more turf wars over royal-ties exist, but The Band’s problems are well documented, and not a figment of my imagination. You whippersnap-pers out there who’ve never of The Band need to talk to someone with gray hair, and they’ll explain. Or google Bob Dylan / The Band. You’ve heard their stuff before, you just don’t know it yet. After that you can watch the movie The Last Waltz. The movie portrays The Band’s vision of what a swan song is, and should be, to perfec-tion.
Thats me in the corner, Thats me in the spotlight
Right now is the most important moment of my life. It’s where I try to spend the most time. I’ve seen the future, and I’ve lived the past to the fullest. I’m where I feel com-fortable right now. It’s the;
FRIENDLIEST BAR - M.S.K.&T. in Lake Elsinore. Maureen O’Hara is behind the bar again, although she is now going by the name Jenean. Every once in a while we reminisce about the good old days when we’d hang out on The Duke’s boat between movies. She always
ADVENTURES IN PARADISE
reminds me that those days are gone, and nothing will ever bring them back. Even though I know she’s right, I’ll never admit this very personal defeat. Everyone I’ve met at M.S.K.&T. has been friendly. Patrons and Staff seem to ef-fortlessly try to out respect one another. Managers, Charlie in particular, interact with diners when they’re not swamped with cooking culinary delights. When The Moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, even Bob is a pleasure to talk to for me. He’ll always be a pleasure to talk to for you. This place is great, but there’s a lot of mean streets out there in River Diego, so I have work to do. The Avacardo waits at the curb, and I’m off.
Tryin’ to keep an eye on you And I don’t know If I can do it
Oh no I said too much. I haven’t said enough. I thought that I heard you laughing,
I thought that I heard you sing. I think I thought I saw you try
The mix C.D. skips here on my centralized sound system. By the way, this is detectable only to humans. I had Things to Do Today & Tonight south of Etengvo Wuwoma. So with my pen, a notebook and my 2.50 readers I hopped into The Avacardo and headed south. I had a two o’clock

ADVENTURES IN PARADISEappointment at Vinz in Escondido and if I left now, as the af-ternoon sun started to wane, I would only be a few hours late. Artwork had been accepted by one of Old Town Front Street’s premier Art Galleries. It’s Temecula Valley Cheese Company and I decided to make a quick stop. To my dismay the artwork was still there, but also there was the;
BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE - VIOLINIST - John Rankin at Temecula Valley Cheese Company in Old Town Temecula. There’s nothing I hate to have to listen to more than someone’s “Heart Felt” original music when all I want to hear is classic rock songs that I know all the words to. Today John insisted on shoving his originals down my throat and since my driver had a one hour break, I was stuck at T.V.C.C. and had to make the best of it. I am having major surgery on Tuesday, January 3rd. I am in a lot of pain every day. That is why if you walked past my table while John was playing on that warm afternoon in December, you might have seen a tear in the corner of my eye. It certainly wasn’t John’s song “Actress” that started the water works. “Move” didn’t effect me either. I was in a lot of pain that day. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. “Songs have endings, but legends stand the test”. Oregon’s loss is our gain. Thank you John. Days later I would be back at T.V.C.C. to see the

discovered this duet that everyone has known about for years recently, and have ordained them worthy. You can reaffirm on Friday January 13th at 6pm at T.V.C.C.. Amy is purdy, and Mike can play guitar. I’m kinda shy, and crowds intimidate me. You folks probably shouldn’t come to this show. A limerick was forced on me by Danny Brudge. Not my cup of tea. I listened reluctantly and then accepted The Italian Sandwich from my hostess, Shawn, gratefully. Only then did Danny’s limerick make sense. He’s on the staff here at T.V. Cheese. I couldn’t help but notice that The Girls seemed to gather around to listen to his limericks. Since a local owner pointed out to me that “Women are People Too!!!!”. His picture was supposed to be on page 27, but there was a mix up. Jim Morrison once told me “5 to 1 Baby, One in Five”. He told me this on The Doors album “Strange Days”. It was not when we met years before in Lancaster California at “The Elks Lodge”. I know he was referring to The Vietnam War in 5 to 1, but it also applies to The Mythical Carload I have been pursuing in these pages for five long years. I’m getting closer every day. The entire staff at T.V.C.C. is very hospitable, blah blah blah, I wanted to stay. I couldn’t. The sandwich was the;
BEST LUNCH - The Italian Sandwich at Temecula Valley Cheese Company in Temecula. It’s very different from what I’m used to. It’s good. Thanks again Shawn.

Every whisper, every waking hour, I’m choosing my confessions Trying to keep an eye on you, like a hurt lost and blind and old
Oh no I said too much, I set it up.
Escondido loomed ahead and my two o’clock appointment was three hours ago. The design of the freeway system forced me into the Comstock’s parking lot. Norm was there and I asked if my pals Richard, Kurt and Matthew had caused any trouble when I ditched them there the previous week. Norm’s even older than I am, but I was puzzled when he said people inside said I had arrived solo, got out of Silver and started talking to myself outside of the big silver car. I figured I had mixed up the nights, but since no one had complaints, I figured Winkin, Blinkin and Nod must have behaved well and headed to the;
BEST DINNER - Vinz in Historic Downtown Escondido. I am the Public Relations Director for the Cactus Bob Review as Cac-tus Bob. I also am Vice President of Public Relations / Damage Control as Bob. Today I’d be talking to the owner of Vinz. His name is Vincent. Cactus Bob had talked to Vinnie the week before and Vincent had heard about it. I had realized my mistake while smoking a cigarette outside and noticing it said Vinz on the windows. A term I usually never use is “To make a long story short” does apply here. Vince and I were seeing eye to eye within minutes. Vince is larger than life, so I did

need a soapbox to stand on to accomplish this. The treaty we negotiated allows both sides the right to exist. This is in writ-ing. I myself know I’ll be forever in debt to Vinz, for the second chance verbally bestowed.
Consider this, Consider this, Fate of the century Consider this, The stuff, that brought me to my knees pales
What if all these fantasies come flaming around, now I said too much
,I asked Vince as I ate the Flat Iron Steak he had comped me about the week before’s hijinks, just as I had done with Norm an Hour earlier. I heard a similar story to the one that was going around at The Comstock. After dinner, I had walked Tracy to her nearby automobile, bid her adieu and returned to my table to savour the remnants of my beer. The patrons watched as I pulled a cigarette from the green pack squirreled away in my coat. I had walked east and proceeded to have a heated conversation with persons a few doors down. Because of their seating positions, none of the patrons had seen anyone else from that distance. Some recalled seeing a long haired “Hippie Type” inside Vinz at about that time who’d only say “Have a Good Time, All the Time.” to anyone who’listen to him long enough. I had to leave immediately. I realized that I was standing on shaky ground, (As are all Californians), and an exit was in order. The Avocado fired right up and in two minutes I had checked in at “The World Famous Sand Crab” in Escondido. There Elizabeth was promised “prettiest smile brunette” as so many on my route are. The Cow Shed and 4 corners Liquor were polite, receptive and neutral and then I saw the;
PRETTIEST SMILE - BRUNETTE - Britany at Smoke Shack Smoke Shop in San Marcos. I know a good photographer in Lake Elsinore. Her name is Patty Lebron. I’m going to hook her up with Britany, who is getting back into modeling, and take over the modeling business in River Diego. Watch me. Dani P’s had last month’s Prettiest Smile Recipient Blonde, or the beauty there would have knocked;
PRETTIEST SMILE - BLONDE - Dakota at The Ponderosa Bar & Grill in Menifee right into a tie. There shall be no more ties. This is Playoff Season. We discussed Bidness at Dani P’s, but my heart wasn’t in it. I realized my “best friends” from my December Adventures were gone.
But that was just a dream, Try Cry Why Try, That was just a dream, just a dream, just a dream
The next night, big silver car, I saw the; BEST ROCK & ROLL SHOW - Barb Wire Dolls and The Wreck at P.K.’s Roadhouse in Lake Elsinore. I’ve worked with felines before, as evidenced by earlier CBR covers featuring Cougars Rock. Barb Wire Dolls are cute cuddly kittens who are visit-ing us for a while. It’s only while their den in Greece is being remodeled. They will be doing shows starting this spring with The Cactus Bob Revue. Make sure your face is securely at-tached to your skull before you show up for these shows or it will be blown off. The night we met I wrote this;
I haven’t seen a room so electrified since before the turn of the century. The Dolls were there in all their glory. They wore the dress of success. They walked the walk and talked the talk. I enjoyed their company. They will be a welcome addition to River Diego. The warm up act was The Wreck. I finally figured out what’s up with Jesse “Crazy Feet”’s toe tapping crazy feet. I watched him play with Lord Byron at The Ponderosa last December 17th and for each solid bass note he plays, he does at least five disjointed taps with his toes. With The Wreck, there’s a note for every tap. Chux Myth was on. I mean really on. Drums were provided and played. I was talked at by an Angel.
Halfway through The Wreck’s set and I had seen all I needed to see. The two males of The Dolls clutch were going nuts. “Hey! Wake Up! You’re not in Kansas anymore!” These sea-soned veterans of the Rock Wars were very impressed with our

homegrown Buds. If I have my way, and I usually do, there will be plenty more shows coming. It’s here. It’s now. It’s beautiful.
The next day a redhead crossed my path.
PRETTIEST SMILE - REDHEAD - Bridgett at P.K.’s Roadhouse in Lake Elsinore. This is in addition to Prettiest Smile Purple for her late December coif. I listened to “My Little Town” by Paul Simon as the lake disappeared in my rear view mirror.

BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE - ELECTRIC DUO - Strange Brew at Little Louie’s in Hemet. The next open mic will be soon, but not too soon, as it turns out to be a lot of work.
So now that R.E.M.’s song is gone from my noggin, “Every-body Hurts” has replaced it. Micheal Stipe, in “R.E.M. By M.T.V.”, said “The lyrics mean whatever you want them to mean”. He also bemoans the fame and isolation of the life-style. I wouldn’t change places with him for anything. I’m having too much fun. I’ve had my dry ice opening anyway. Richard Manuel hung himself ten years after “The Last Waltz”. “Have a Good Time, All The Time” was his best line in that movie. “Family Guy” had a little quip on the other night show-

ing Kurt Cobain with a “Kurt Cobain Live at Budokan 2012” tee shirt on. That would have been worth seeing. I disagree with “Family Guy’s” writers on their following comment. That was Courtney’s fault as much as Yoko broke up The Beatles. In 1885 my Great Grand Uncle Matthew Reche was waiting in Reche California for his fiancee to arrive from New York. Reche (Ru- Shay. It’s French) California was located up in Reche Canyon just behind the big white “M” on the side of that mountain above Moreno Valley. When his bride to be’s ship arrived in San Francisco, she stayed on board for the night. Most of the other passengers got hotel rooms in San Francisco. There was a fire on board the ship that night in 1885. Five days after Matthew received the news, Matthew went off into the hills. Five days later his body was found.
If you see this in a friend, take them out for a drink. Pepsi will do, not Coke. Go to the Jukebox and play their favorite song. Then put your arms around them and hold on to them. If they struggle, hold on. Never let them go, not for a second. Someone smarter than you will show up soon to take over for you. After they give up, make sure you’re there to catch your friend. Then go to the jukebox and play “Tiny Demons” by Todd Rundgren, “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M. and “Time” by The Chambers Brothers. Then light a fire in the fireplace using wood from A.S.A.P. Tractor Service in Murrieta. Oak is always best, but a half cord of mixed wood with no delivery charge guarantees that nothing will happen while you’re out on a fuel run. Every day twenty U.S. veterans take their own lives. I’ll be at V.F.W. post 4379 in Winchester on January 28th for “Steak Night”. Entertainment will provided by Reason 55 and Lost Dog. I’ll be there. Light a fire.
BEST BREAKFAST - $5.00 Sausage and Eggs with Home Style Potatoes and Toast at Ponderosa Bar & Grill in Menifee. Great Bloody Mary’s too. After that it was off to the;
BEST COUNTRY SHOW - Crazy Creek at The Winchester Inn in Winchester. Real Country. Real Cowboys. The real Hank’s songs. I needed Hank’s songs that day. We all do. Adventures in Paradise will continue. Eight Ball Steve and Brad Clement will be receiving “BEST” awards in The February CBR, and things will be just fine.
BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE - MALE - KARAOKE - Brad Clement at The Riverside in Lake Elsinore. One of these days a local band will pick up on this guy and make it big. Until then, he’s the Karaoke Jockey at The Riverside. Next month it’s all about you, Eight Ball.
