You might see me on the play ground after play time – why?

Blackbird

You’ll see me near gardens and playing fields too!

I like to sing!

Blue tit

You need to look in the trees for me. I like to eat caterpillars, nuts and seeds.

Robin

You usually see me on my own.I like to eat worms!

Wood Pigeon

I clap my wings together as I fly.I eat plants and seeds.

Great tit

You will see me in gardens, parks, playing fields and woods.

I like to eat caterpillars and nuts.

Starling

In summer I lose my spots.I like to pull worms and grubs from people’s

lawns and fields.

Chaffinch

My red front means I am a male.I like to eat seeds, but feed my chicks on insects.

What can we do to help the birds?

Make a bird feeder!(Make the birds happy!)

You will need:

A small foil caseStringLard

Bird seed

How to make a bird feeder:

1: Make a hole in the foil pie case with a pair of scissors.

2: Tie a knot in some string and thread it through the hole to hang it up with.

3: Cut a thick slice of lard.

4: Pour in some bird seed and mix together for a tasty treat.

5: Now it gets messy! Squish the mixture into the foil case and

chill it in the fridge until it’s firm.

6: It's now ready to hang in your garden or outside a window.

Alternatively, cover a pine cone in lard and roll in bird seeds to make them stick.

Finally tie a string around the top to hang it by.
