"As imigrantes do Quarto Mundo" // Natasha PadilhaLinea de Costa A.I.R.

The Fourth World is a concept created by the great mexican performer Guillermo Gómez Peña. Hesays that: 'In the Fourth World, there is very little place for static identities, fixed nationalities,'pure' languages, or sacred cultural traditions. The members of the Fourth World live between andacross various cultures, communities, and countries. And our identities are constantly beingreshaped by this kaleidoscopic experience. The artists and writers who inhabit the Fourth Worldhave a very important role: to elaborate the new set of myths, metaphors, and symbols that willlocate us within all of these fluctuating cartographies'. (GÓMEZ-PEÑA, 1 996, p.7)Using this concept and inspired by the many identities and cultural differences that exist in theworld and in (the little world inside) each one of us, I'm developing a serie of characters that arepersonifications of this post-modern kaleidoscopic.

El Cuarto Mundo es un concepto creado por el gran artista mexicano Guillermo Gómez Peña,según el cual "En el Cuarto Mundo hay muy poco espacio para las identidades estáticas,nacionalidades inalterables, idiomas "puros", o tradiciones culturales sagradas. Los miembros delCuarto Mundo viven entre y a través de diversas culturas, comunidades y países. Y nuestrasidentidades son constantemente remodeladas por esta experiencia caleidoscópica. Los artistas yescritores que habitan en el cuarto mundo tienen un papel muy importante: elaborar el nuevoconjunto de mitos, metáforas y símbolos que nos identifiquen dentro de todas estas cartografíasfluctuantes" . (Gómez-Peña, 1 996, p.7)Haciendo uso de este concepto e inspirada por las muchas identidades y diferencias culturalesque existen en el mundo y en el pequeño mundo interior de cada uno de nosotros, he desarrolladouna serie de personajes que son personificaciones de esta postmodernidad caleidoscópica.
