Lesson Three OverviewLesson Three Overview

After completing this lesson, you will be able to: Describe the process for

licensing: Applications Developer tools Servers Online services

Introduction to Product LicensingIntroduction to Product Licensing

An organization’s licensing options for software products are affected by the following factors: The number of servers The number of client devices Network accessibility

Licensing Desktop ApplicationsLicensing Desktop Applications

Customers using desktop application software may:

Install and use one copy, any component, and any prior version of the software on a licensed device.

Install one copy of the software on a networked device.

Install another copy of the software on a portable device, to be used exclusively by the primary user of the licensed device.

Licensing Desktop Operating Licensing Desktop Operating SystemsSystemsA customer who has acquired a Desktop OS license may: Install a maximum of two copies of the software on a

single device. Allow only one user to use the software at a time, with

the exception of Device Connections. Install a prior version in place of the licensed version for

either or both copies of the software. Use the copies on the device on which they were first

installed. Use the software on up to two processors on that

device at one time. Also access and use the software using remote access

technologies.

Licensing Developer ToolsLicensing Developer Tools

Licensing on a per developer basis allows developers to:

Install and use the application on numerous devices, provided that only the designated developer uses the application.

Use the application only for: Designing Testing Demonstration Development

Customers: May install and use one copy of the server software on one server. May install and use, on any device, any additional software listed

in the PUR. Must acquire a server license for each individual server being

used. Must acquire appropriate number of device or user CALs. May acquire an External Connector that is linked to the server

rather than to the client.
