What is “socializing”?

Do you think these people are having a good time?

How are they socializing?

Do you socialise in these ways?

Where are these people socialising?

Where do you like to socialise with your friends or family?

WHO DO YOU SOCIALISE WITH?

WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO SOCIALISE? WHY? Use comparatives.

Use superlatives.

Use “…as…as…”

Use gerunds from the last unit.

OUTSIDE OR INSIDE!

IN A RESTAURANT OR IN A PARK

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO GO OUT IN RIONEGRO? HOW MUCH WOULD BE

THE AVERAGE?

Expensive ($ )

Reasonable ($ )

Cheap ($ )

HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST TO SOCIALISE IN EACH OF THESE PLACES

WE HAVE DISCUSSED?

WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A PARTY. WHO ARE WE GOING TO INVITE? WHAT

INFORMATION DO WE GIVE PEOPLE?

LOOK AT WHAT BRAD AND GAYLE SAY. DO YOU USE SIMILAR QUESTIONS? WHAT INFORMATION

DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE PARTY?

WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN IN EACH EXAMPLE?

LOOK AT WHAT PHIL SAYS! DOES PHIL KNOW FOR SURE THAT THE WEATHER

WILL BE WARM?

NO, HE DOESN’T I have to get up early tomorrow.

I will get up early tomorrow.

I am supposed to get up early tomorrow.

WHAT SHOULD SHE DO TOMORROW?

She should get up early.

Do you think she will do this?

Why not?

TO BE SUPPOSED TO This refers to something we except to happen or that we understand should happen.

LOOK AT PATTY’S SPEECH! “They were supposed to pick me up at 07:00”.

We can use “to be supposed to” in the past too! What does it mean?

LOOK AT EACH EXAMPLE OF “SUPPOSE”. HOW IS EACH ONE USED?

WHAT IS/WAS SUPPOSED TO

HAPPEN IN THE FOLLOWING PICTURES!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO AT THE WEEKEND?

What do you expect to happen?

LESSON B – WE’VE GOT TO GET GOING

What events do you get invited to?

Do you always want to go?

What event at the weekend do the couple in the book get invited to?

Do they both want to go?

WHAT WAS ROSA SUPPOSED TO

DO???????

DOES ROSA HAVE A LOT OF TIME TO GET READY?

Why not?

DID ROSA GO TO THE MEETING?

What was she supposed to do?

ROSA DOESN’T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING. WHAT DOES SHE NOT

UNDERSTAND?

IS LUIS ANXIOUS ABOUT THE TIME? WHY?

What does he say about his mother?

WHAT DOES ROSA WANT TO WEAR TO THE WEDDING?

Does Luis think that this is acceptable?

DOES ROSA OFTEN WEAR FANCY CLOTHES? EXPLAIN YOUR ANSWER!

HOW LONG DOES ROSA WANT TO SPEND AT THE WEDDING?

HOW DOES LUIS FEEL ABOUT WHAT ROSA SAYS?

DO YOU THINK ROSA IS GOING TO ENJOY THE RECEPTION? CAN YOU GUESS A WORD FROM

THE TEXT THAT SHOWS HOW SHE FEELS?

WHAT IS AN ADVANTAGE OF GOING TO THE WEDDING? WHO WILL THEY MEET

THERE?

WHO BOUGHT A GIFT? WHAT DOES EACH PERSON SAY?

FIND THE GET SENTENCES IN THE TEXT!

Then put them into example sentences in the table.

MAYBE “CONVERSATION CLUB” GET VERBS. OR MAYBE CONVERSATION

PHRASAL VERBS.

Get usually involves some kind of process.

LOOK AT YOUR EXAMPLE SENTENCES! WHAT IS THE SUBJECT AND OBJECT IN

EACH ONE?

What is the structure

2 word phrasal verbs –Verb + participle + object

3 word phrasal verbs – Verb + preposition + participle

DO EXERCISE 2 AND FIND AN EXAMPLE OF EACH PHRASE AT HOME

YOU HAVE AN IMPORTANT

OCCASION TO ATTEND! ARE YOU GOING TO GO…?

What are/were you supposed to do? Are you going to do it? How sure are you (maybe/definitely…)?

Use “get” phrasal verbs.

DO EXERCISE D FROM THE UNIT 4 QUIZ!

HOW DO YOU CELABRATE YOUR BBIRTHDAY?

AFTER A CERTAIN AGE SOME PEOPLE STOP….(CELEBRATE) THEIR

BIRTHDAYS

What is the difference?

Is it your birthday?

So, it’s your birthday?

CAN YOU FIND MORE EXAMPLES OF THESE KINDS OF QUESTIONS?

HOW DOES MARTIN USUALLY SPEND HIS BIRTHDAY?

Martin’s wife once organised something for his birthday.

What was done? (USE PASSIVES)

GRANT WANTS A LITTLE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT SOME POINTS.

WHICH POINTS? The date of Martin’s birthday.

The surprise party that Martin’s wife organised.

If all of Martin’s old friends came.

We can use “So,” at the start of these questions.

We can use “then” or “huh” at the end to make them seem more natural.

DO EXERCISE 2

USE “SO” OR “THEN/HUH” CORRECTLY IN EACH SENTENCE IN 2A.

SAY EACH SENTENCE AS A QUESTION AND A STATEMENT.

Use the structure in (3) to invent your own question with the correct intonation!

HOW DO YOU LIKE TO

SOCIALISE?

WHAT IT “EXTROVERTED”? Conversation club ideas on “extroverted”.

WHAT IS “INTROVERTED”?
