To The Editor,

Re: "Canadian Participation in the International Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Decade". Vol. 75 No. 1 January/ February 1984.

My congratulations on the general high quality of the articles contained in the January/ February, 1984 edition of the Journal.

I would, however, like to comment on specific inaccuracies contained in the article referred to above that was authored by Mr. Brian Grover.

Page 77, paragraphs 5 and 6 state that

the International Development Re- search Centre is funded by CIDA. In fact, IDRC is a Crown Corporation created by an Act of Parliament of the Government of Canada in 1970. Its mandate is specifically to provide assistance for the conduct of research activities by developing country scien- tists/institutions in specific areas of national concern.

IDRC program Divisions include Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Scien- ces, Social Sciences, Information Sciences, Fellowship and Awards Div- ision and the Health Sciences Division

of which the Water Supply and Sanita- tion sector is a part.

We would appreciate your drawing this serious inaccuracy to the attention of Mr. Grover and your readers who may acquire more specific information on our activities by contacting us directly.

Karl Smith
