When we camp, we need tents.
Give all kids a piece of black paper
and the green tent (triangle) with a
cut in it (down the centre to make
a tent)
Have the kids glue down the tent
to the paper anyway they want.
What else do we have when we
camp?
Trees
Ground
Fire
Animals
Stars moon
Signs
Cut out the pieces and glue them
down to create your own experi-
ence!

When we are out in nature, we need to be able to find things that are far away. What do
you call things that allow us to see things that are far away?
Binoculars Binoculars are like two telescopes held side by side. Binoculars are made of two tubes,
one for each of our eyes. Inside those tubes are special pieces of glass that are bent or
shaped in a certain way that can stretch or reflect the images that we see through
them! It makes them seem bigger! If you have a magnifying glass, you can use it to
see how the bulging shape of that glass actually stretches the shapes we see through
it. People like to use binoculars instead of telescopes because they are usually cheap-
er. Telescopes help us see things really far away, like stars and planets. Binoculars
tend to be used for things like bird watching and seeing the stage from the very back
row of a theater. You might say, “Two telescopes are better than one”! Our eyes
help each other out so we see things more clearly. Using two eyes, we can see shapes
and colors in better detail. The same is true using binoculars. We get to use both our
eyes. With telescopes, we only use one.

Let us make bird feeders so that we can see the birds come to
our homes.
Where should I put birdfeeders?
Birds are most likely to eat where they feel safe from predators,
including free-roaming cats. Place feeders twelve feet from a
brush pile, evergreen tree, or bush. Birds can quickly fly twelve
feet to reach the safe cover, yet predators cannot use it to hide
within striking range of the feeder. As further protection, place
chicken wire or thorny branches around ground-level feeders.

Take 11 popsicle sticks and lay them side by side
Take 2 more sticks and put on of them on each end
1. Put glue the length of the 2nd sticks and place it on each side over the ends
2. Take two more sticks and put them in between the ends for strength
3. Start put-ting on the walls
4. Break a stick in half to make a perch
5. Keep building walls up to 6 sticks high
6. Let dry and then attach string for hanging
What do we put in to birdfeeders? What do Birds eat?
A granivore eats primarily grains or seeds, and many birds are granivorous, including many sparrows and finches. These are easy birds to attract to the backyard with different types of birdseed. Planting seed-bearing flowers in the yard or opting for ornamental grasses are easy ways to provide natural foods for granivores. Many of these birds also eat large amounts of weed seeds or spilled grain in fields.
Birds eat all sorts of things but these are the types of birds we are trying to attract and are commonly found in our backyards.
