What you really need to know!

A ratio is a comparison of two numbers by division. Ratios can be written in three ways and should be in simplest form.

Example 1:

Express the ratio 10 roses out of 12 flowers as a fraction in simplest form.

Example 2:

Express the ratio 21 inches to 2 yards as a fraction in simplest form.

2 yards must be converted into inches first!2 yd x 36 inches = 72 inches

Example 2:

Express the ratio 21 inches to 72 inches as a fraction in simplest form.

A 12-oz bottle of cleaner cost $4.50. A 16-oz bottle of cleaner cost $6.56. Which costs less per ounce?

Example 4:

A snail moved 30 feet in 2 hours. How many inches per minute did the snail move?

30 feet must be changed to inches.

2 hours must be changed to minutes.

Example 4:

A snail moved 30 feet in 2 hours. How many inches per minute did the snail move?

30 ft x 12 in = 360 inches

2 hrs x 60 min = 120 minutes

Example 4:

A snail moved 360 inches in 120 minutes. How many inches per minute did the snail move?
