Memoryverse‘TheCross’.Havealargecrossdrawnontoalargepieceofpaperorcard.Foldthecrossattheboxes.Writepartsofthememoryverseintoeachbox,readingdownfromthetop,acrossthemiddleanddowntothebottom.Letallthechildrensaythememoryverse,thenfoldoverapieceofthecrosstohidesomeofthewordsandaskthechildrentorepeatthememoryverse.Continueuntilthereisonlyonesquareleft.

2. ‘ToiletRoll’memoryverse.Usingatoiletroll,unrollitandwriteawordontoeachsheet.Makesureyouuseamarkerthatwillleakintothepaper,makingitalittlemoredifficulttoread.Rollupthetoiletrollreadytorevealthememoryverse!Askforavolunteertoholdthefirstsheetofthetoiletrollasyourevealthememoryverse.Oncethewholememoryversehasbeenrevealedgetallthechildrentorepeatitandlearnit.Thenremoveasheetortwoatatime,eachtimesayingthememoryverseuntileverychildisconfidentlysayingthememoryverse.

Backgroundinfo:

Inthispassage,Jesushealsasickwomanandraisesalittlegirlfromthedead.Boththesepeoplewouldhavebeenseenasunimportantinthesocietyofthetime,awomanandachild,butJesuscametogivenewlifetoboth.

JesusshowsHisloveforallbyhealingandinteractingwiththem.HedemonstratesHiscareforothersthroughoutthisstory,reassuringJairus,comfortingandencouragingthesickladyandmakingsurethelittlegirlhadsomethingtoeat.

Jesushadbeentravelling,teachinganddoingmiracles;wordhadspreadandsoeverywhereHewentHeattractedabigcrowd.Beingthefocusofallthesepeople,healingandcaringforotherscannothavebeeneasyandyetJesusdidnotturnpeopleaway,insteadHeshowedHispowerandreachedoutandhelpedpeople.

ItisimportanttorememberthatJairuswasaveryhigh-upofficialintheJewishchurch;heshouldnothavebeenaskingJesusforhelp,nevermindthrowinghimselfatHisfeet,whichwasanactofworshipandrespect.JairusputasidehisprideandstatusandhumbledhimselfandhadfaithtocometoJesuswiththebeliefthatHecouldhealhisdaughter.

Sometimesweevenshouldgotobed,andliedownuntilwefeelbetter.

Ifweareverysick,thenwemightevenhavetogotothedoctors,orthehospital.

Todaywearegoingtohearabouttwopeoplewhowereverysick.TheyweretwopeopleJesusmetintheBible.InMarkchapter5.

ThefirstwasthedaughterofamannamedJairus.JairuswasaveryimportantJew,aleaderatthelocalsynagogue,thenameofthechurchforJewishpeople.

Jewishpeopledidn’tbelievethatJesuswastheMessiah,theSaviouroftheWorld,soitwasveryunusualthatthisveryimportantJewishleadercametofindJesusandaskHimafavour.HehadheardthatJesushadbeenhealingpeopleandhetrulybelievedthatJesuscouldhealhislittlegirl.

Jairus’littlegirlwasverysick.

HewassoworriedabouthisdaughterthatherantoJesusandfellatHisfeet,saying,‘mydaughterisdying,pleasecomeandputyourhandsonherandshewillbehealed’.

JesussawJairus’faithandwentwithJairustohishouse.

OnthewaytoJairus’house,becauseJesuswassopopular,ahugecrowdgatheredaroundthem.

Inthecrowdwasawomanwhohadbeensickfortwelveyears;canyouimaginewhatthatwouldbelike?

Thisladywasverysick,shehadbeenbleedingfortwelveyears,butshebelievedJesuscouldhealher.

Infact,shehadsomuchfaithinJesusthatshebelievedifshesimplytouchedHimshewouldbehealed!

AsthecrowdpushedandshovedaroundJesus,theladygotcloserandclosertoJesus,until…theladyreachedoutandtouchedJesus!Immediatelytheladywashealed!Shewasfreefromallthesicknessandpainandthebleedingstopped.

JesusknewthatsomeonewhotouchedHimhadbeenhealedandsoHeaskedthecrowdwhohadbeenhealed.

ThewomanwasveryscaredbutfellatJesus’feetandtoldHimwhathadhappened.Jesuswasnotcross;Hecaredaboutthewomanandtoldher,‘yourfaithhashealedyou,goinpeaceandbefreefromyoursuffering’.

Justthen,someofJairus’friendsarrivedandtoldhimtheverysadnewsthathisdaughterhaddied.

TheytoldJairustoleaveJesusalone;thesemendidnotthinkJesuscouldhelp.

However,JesustoldJairustokeepbelievingandnottobeafraid.

WhentheyarrivedatJairus’house,therewerelotsofpeoplecryingaboutthedeathofJairus’daughter.

Jesusaskedthem,‘whyareyoucrying?Thechildisonlyasleep!’.

ThepeoplelaughedatJesus;theyknewthatthelittlegirlwasdead.

However,JesustookJairusandhiswifeintothelittlegirl’sroom.Hewentstraightovertothelittlegirlandsaid,’getup!’.

Anddoyouknowwhathappenednext?Letthechildrenrespond.

Thelittlegirlgotupandbegantowalkaround.Howamazing!

Application:Jairuswaswillingtodoanythingtohelphislittlegirl;evenwhenitseemedliketherewasnohopeJairusstillhadfaithinJesusthatHecouldhealhisdaughter.Often,whenwearefacedwithproblemsandfears,itcanbeveryhardtotrustinGod,butweshouldfollowJairus’exampleandtrustevenwhenwearefacedwithahardsituation.

Inthisstory,JesusshowedthatHeisalwaysincontrolevenwhenitseemstoolate;thesickladywashealedafterallthoseyearsofsufferingandthelittlegirlwasbroughtbacktolife.Jesussimplyasksthatwehavefaithandbelieve,justlikeJairusandthesickwoman,becauseHeisalwaysincontrolandwillneverletusdown.JesusbroughtnewlifeinChristandHecanbringnewlifetoustoo,ifwetrustandbelieveintheLordJesusChrist,thatHediedforoursins,wasburiedandroseagain.

BecomingaChristianmeansthatyourealisethatyouneedJesusChristinyourlife.JesusistheSonofGodandHecametoearthtosharethegoodnewsthatGodwantstogettoknowusandhavearelationshipwithus.Godlovesus.Godisholyandhatessin.Jesuswasbornintotheworldandisfullyhumanandfullydivine.HeisourwaytocomeintotheholypresenceofGod.BecauseGodcannotbearoundsin,Jesusdiedforoursinsonthecross,sothatwhenweaskforGod’sforgivenessandaskhimtocomeintoourliveswecanfreelycomeintoGod’sholypresence.WehavealldonewrongandweallneedJesus!

JesusalsogivesusagiftcalledtheHolySpirit.TheHolySpiritisthepartofGodthatcanbewithusallthetime.Hewillcomfortus,guideus,leadusintotruth,teachusmoreaboutJesus,andhelpustolivelikeGodwantsustoo.

ChristianstrytoliveforGodthroughtheirownpersonalfaithinGod.Through:readingthebible,whichisourstudyguide;praying,whichisourcommunicationwithGod,wetalktoGodandwelistentowhatHesaysbacktousandhavingarelationshipwithJesus,havingabestfriend.Themoretimeyouspendwithyourbestfriend,themoreyoustarttoactalike;themoretimewespendwithJesus,themorewe’llstarttoactlikeHim.

Toputitsimply:WerecognisethatweneedJesus.Weacknowledgethatwesinandneedtoaskforforgiveness.WecannowhavearelationshipwithGod.WecanbecomechildrenofGodWecancallGodourFatherWecanonedaybewithGodinheaven.
