The Active Maldon Sports Awards scheme is an annual celebration of sporting success within the Maldon District held every October. The voting process is open from May until the end of September each year.

The scheme provides an opportunity for the community to recognise those who are involved in sport, whether through participation, coaching or volunteering.

Nominees must live within or be associated with a club in the Maldon District. Award winners may be eligible for the annual Essex Sports Awards.

The categories for nominations are:• Sports personality of the year• Disabled sports personality of the year• Services to disability sport• Unsung hero (volunteer)• Paralympic hopeful• Young volunteer (U18)• Sports club of the year• Coach of the year• Physical activity project of the year• School or college of the year• Young sports personality of the year• Active workplace of the year• Changing lives through sport and physical activity

MALDON DISTRICT SPORTS CLUB FORUMS

Sports club forums are organised to give clubs the opportunity to receive the latest development information from Active Essex, Active Maldon and Maldon District Council.

Information may include funding opportunities, Clubmark information, Club Charter information, volunteer opportunities and much more.

After each forum there is an option available for clubs to receive a 1-2-1 surgery session with an Active Essex / Active Maldon representative to talk about assistance on general club matters.

The Maldon District Council leisure and sport development team hosts two batches of annual sports club forums within the District: the first in February and the second in August.

To allow a high amount of club participation forums are held in Maldon and Burnham-on-Crouch.

The leisure and sports development team at Maldon District Council is on hand to offer advice and assistance to all the District’s clubs that are looking to gain accreditation.

CLUBMARK

Quality Club Accreditation shows that a club provides the right environment which ensures the welfare of members and encourages everyone to enjoy sport and stay involved throughout their lives.

An accredited club is recognised as a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for participants of all ages as well as helping parents and carers know that they’re choosing the right club for their young people.

Clubmark is now part of Sport England’s Club Matters. Club Matters is Sport England’s one stop shop for sports clubs. Club Matters provides free, convenient, practical resources to help you develop and run a sustainable club.

CHARTER STANDARD

The FA Charter Standard programme supported by McDonald’s is a kitemark, which recognises and rewards high quality levels of provision in club and league football. The kitemark is awarded to clubs and leagues that are well run, sustainable, which place child protection, quality coaching and safety paramount.

There are three levels of FA Charter Standard Awards for clubs to recognise the different standards. The entry level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Club’, the next level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Development Club’ and the most advanced ‘FA Charter Standard Community Club’. Each advanced level requires additional criteria to be met.

Quest

The UK quality scheme for sport and leisure.

Quest is a tool for continuous mprovement, designed primarily for the management of leisure facilities and leisure development.
