ALL SAINTS MASSES All Saints' Day is a solemn holy
day of the Catholic Church cele-

The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that
is, all those who have attained heaven. It should not
be confused with All Souls' Day, which is observed
on November 2, and is dedicated to those who have
died and not yet reached heaven. http://

SERVING THOSE WHO SERVE
During this “season” of second collections, we
will be asked to contribute to the triennial national
collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Ser-
vices. Over 1.8 million people rely on this Archdio-
cese for spiritual care. One needs only to look at this
picture to sense the importance of these services, par-
ticularly those who are deployed. The collection will
take place the weekend of November 10.

THANK YOU Thank you so much for all
the lovely produce you
brought for our clients of the
I.C. Food Pantry. With your
help we provided 9,360 meals to 282 families during
the 3rd quarter of 2019. The addition of the fresh pro-
duce was much appreciated by our clients.
Thank you again, and God Bless!

SISTER DOROTHY
STANG AWARD
The Archdiocesan Sister Dorothy
Stang Award was presented to
Kathy Groendyk by St. Helen
parish on World Mission Sunday,
October 20th, 2019 for her many
years of work in promoting and
selling Fair Trade items in our par-
ish.
Sister Dorothy was a Dayton na-
tive, and a member of the Sisters
of Notre Dame de Namur, who after teaching school
went to Brazil as a missionary in 1966. She began
working with the indigenous farmers in the Amazon
basin, and so related to their struggles that she eventu-
ally became a naturalized Brazilian citizen. Her work
with the poor and disadvantageous, her desire to seek
God’s kingdom first, led her into conflict with the lo-
cal wealthy landowners, and after receiving numerous
death threats she was murdered by a contract hitman
in 2005.
“Dot” Stang is often picture wearing a t-shirt
that read “The Death of the Forest is the End of Our
Lives". She is quoted as saying near the end of her
life: “I don't want to flee, nor do I want to abandon the
battle of these farmers who live without any protec-
tion in the forest. They have the sacrosanct right to
aspire to a better life on land where they can live and
work with dignity while respecting the environment.”
Congratulations to Kathy, and blessings on
your continuing work for the poor around the globe!

KAIROS THANK YOU A wonderful thank you to all the loving and faithful followers of Jesus from St. Helen parish who baked
cookies and prayed for the men of Kairos 59 at the Lebanon Correctional Institution this past weekend! Many
lives were transformed and healed. A participant at the graduation on Sunday said that when you enter prison
hope is taken away from you. After this weekend he now had hope once again. God bless you all and your minis-
try. Rev. George Brewer, Kairos Ministries

CARROLL HIGH SCHOOL’S
ACTION APPALACHIA Action Appalachia is an annual service program,
formed by Carroll High School’s seniors, to provide aid
for the Campton Center in Kentucky. This year’s seniors
are collecting clothing for infants, children, teens, men,
and women; gently used toys as well as brand new toys for
Christmas gifts. These donations are vital to the communi-
ty of Campton, which has no relief organizations such as
Salvation Army or Goodwill to meet its needs. There is
also a great need for canned foods-such as soups, tuna,
vegetables; cereal, pasta, and peanut butter are needed too.
You can bring your donations to the Carroll High School
loading dock (located on the west side of the building).
Questions? Please contact Mrs. Melissa Fisher at
937.253.8188 ext 712 or by email mfisher@carrollhs.org.
The deadline for ALL donations is Wednesday,
November 20th. Thank you for your support of this most
needed project.
