People socialise, interact and discuss through doing so they learn

Social and Informal Learning is learning through actively doing.

PrinciplesFlexible - spaces need to be flexible to accommodate for changing needs

Comfortable - spaces must be comfortable and attractive to bring people to them and encour-age them to stay

Bold - spaces must be bold and ambitious to test the ‘norm’ and evoke interest

Creative - spaces must be creative to energise, stimulate and inspire the user

Supportive - correct support systems must be emplaced to develop the potential of all users

Diverse/Multifunctional - Areas must accommodate multiple uses to reach out to a larger user group

Its close proximity to the major lecture theatres and media facilities within the Checkland Building sees the space used throughout the day and late into the evenings.

Beyond the Asa Briggs lecture theatre, to the rear of the building, there is access to a grassed are which is not efficiently used. By redirecting university users to enter through the rear of the building the circulation around the lower levels of Checkland could be dramatically improved.
