In this tutorial, we will cover the cable technique. A cable is a design feature that creates a rope-like twist in the knitting. The twist is created with the aid of a cable needle and the slant of the cable is achieved by the way we cross the stitches from the cable needle.

Although they may seem difficult, cables are actually quite simple, take them step- by-step with this tutorial and you will be creating aran designs in a jiffy!

The next two crossing of cables are the same as the two above, except the crossing stitch is purled rather than knitted (refer to illustrations above for aid).

3-st RPC—done over 3 stitches

Step 1: Place stitch from peg 1 onto cn and hold it to center of the knitting loom. Step 2: Take working yarn in front of cable needle and knit pegs 2 and 3. Step 3: Transfer these stitches to pegs 1 and 2 as follows: stitch from peg 2 to peg 1, stitch from peg 3 to peg 2. Step 4: Place stitch from cn onto peg 3 and purl the stitch.

3-st LPC—done over 3stitches Step 1: Take working yarn behind pegs 1 and 2 (you are skipping pegs 1 and 2). Step 2: Purl peg 3; place stitch on cn. Step 3: Take working yarn to the front of peg 1. Knit pegs 1 and 2. Step 4: Transfer the stitches as follows: loop from peg 2 to peg 3, loop from peg 1 to peg 2 Step 5: Place stitch from cn onto peg 1.
