Leading Edge Dental Care
National Children’s Dental Health Month
On February 12, Linda, our Dental Hygienist and Mary, our Patient Coordinator visited the Kindergarten Class at NASA Space Flight Center. Linda read a Dora story about her visit to the dentist. Linda also taught the children the proper way to brush and which foods were good and not-so-good to eat. This is our second annual visit to NASA. Linda said, “They were a joy and all very interested in what we had to tell them.”
Dr. Hatfield and Robin visited Ridgecrest Ele-mentary School 3rd Grade students for an assembly on proper care of their teeth. Leading Edge Dental Care has recently become “Community Partners” with Ridgecrest, located in Hyattsville, MD. Ridgecrest has recently been designated as an America’s Choice Na-tional Model School for the 2009-2010 school year and this dental pro-gram enhances student awareness.
Principal, Dan Heller, pa-tient of Dr. Hatfield, states, “We look for-ward to working with Dr. Hatfield in the future to help our students make proper choices for suc-cess”.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) now supports the view that chewing gum with xylitol can help reduce the risk of cavities. Previously, it only allowed the statement that sugar-free gums do not promote tooth decay. The EFSA came to this conclusion in October after reviewing several published articles studying the effects of xylitol. The U.S. FDA still does not approve the use of xylitol to reduce cavities. It will only support the statement that it does not promote tooth decay.
During the month of March, Leading Edge Dental Care, in conjunction with the Greenbelt Rotary Club, will be collecting food (box, canned, bag) to be dis-tributed to local food banks and charities.
Local food banks are very low at this time of the year and need our help. All donations are greatly appreci-ated.
Please bring your donations to our office Monday thru Thursday during regular office hours.

As I have gotten older, I notice my teeth are more yellow.
What can I do about it?
People often underestimate the importance of a “brighter”
appearance. A whiter smile is easy and safe to achieve.
We offer many options and can discuss them with you.
Call for a “free” whitening consultation.
