Volume 4, Issue 1
March 2011 From the President
In our first quarter 2011 Alumni Board meeting, I was happy to report to the
Board our finances were such that we could pay back the $5,000 grant we re-
ceived back in 2008 from the Dickinson ISD Education Foundation for operating
expenses to get our organization started. By giving this money back to the Foun-
dation, they will be able to use the money for student scholarships and teacher
grants. In other good news our first scholarship recipient, Adrian Lopez, is doing
well in college. The financial support we receive from our members through your
dues and donations has allowed us to prosper as an Alumni Association. Your
dues pay for our operating costs, annual meeting expenses, tailgate party ex-
penses, and maintaining the website. The first Distinguished Alumni banquet
held last Fall not only paid for itself, we made a profit. Donations we receive are
set aside strictly for student scholarships and will not be used for anything else.
On behalf of our Alumni Board, thank you to our members for your financial sup-
port. With the exception of our life members, we send a bill for your annual dues
about a month before it is due. If we have your email address this bill is sent
electronically. To check the status of your membership, you can go online to the
website at www.dickinsonisdalumni.com. Again, thank you for your support of
your Alumni Association.

Profile of DHS Graduates — Terry Casey ‘73
Our profile this quarter focuses on Terry Casey, Class of ‘73. Terry had an out-
standing career at DHS. He is the youngest of his siblings that became a Gator. He
followed sister Molly ‘68, Miss DHS, and brother Pat ‘69. Terry was a two sport letter-
man in football and track. He was MVP and All-District for the Gators as an offensive
lineman. He was also chosen Mr. DHS and Class Favorite.
After attending DHS, he enrolled at the University of Texas, later transferring to St.
Edwards University where he obtained a degree in Environmental Studies.
He has worked throughout his career with chemi-
cal companies in their environmental programs. He
has been involved in a number of clean-up projects
as a consultant for hazardous waste clean ups. Af-
ter living in numerous cities in the U.S., he returned
to the Houston area in 1990 to start his own company, NL Industries. After selling
out to a major chemical company, he organized yet another hazardous waste
group in 1998. Efficasey Environmental continues to provide that service in the
United States.
Terry now lives in Magnolia, Texas on the north side of Houston with his wife
Jan having raised their two children there. Colleen, 25, lives close by in Tomball,
and son Jack, 18, is a freshman at Texas A&M.
Terry inherited the joy of woodworking from his father Dr. Casey. He finds it as a wonderful way to relax making
things in his shop.
Terry and the Casey family were kind enough to set up a perpetual scholarship for DHS graduates in the name of
their sister Molly who has passed away. This scholarship will provide funds for deserving graduates to attend col-
lege.
Terry signifies an outstanding success story with his life, not only in the business world but also in giving back to
his community and school.
Pictured clockwise are Terry Casey, his wife Jan, daughter Colleen, son Jack, and mother-in-law Sunny Jacobson.

A Kid’s Tales From The Prairie
Ernie Deats, DHS 1958 Graduate has written his third book. The book is stories
of growing up in Dickinson in the 40's and 50's. The Galveston Daily News gave
a great review on "A Kid’s Tales From the Prairie." Growing up in Dickinson is
captured in the "make you laugh out loud" stories. All profits from the sale of the
book goes to scholarships for DHS graduating seniors. The book sells for
$20.00.
