INTRODUCTION
To survive and thrive in the competitive today’s business world, latest developments in
textile testing plays a vital role.
These high speed machines require much cleaner raw material, and therefore they
constantly challenge the testing machinery developers to provide faster and more
accurate testers and quality controllers
Textile industries need for analysis of any type of measurement like length, area, count of
any fine textile fiber can be done for textile fiber & fabrics to fulfill better quality of
products.
IMPORTANCE OF TEXTILE TESTING INSTRUMENTS
In the present textile scenario, textile materials should furnish better quality, good
aesthetic, durability and performance for user. Since for this, testing of textile materials
are significant to yield better quality and marketability
2
CLASSIFICATION OF TESTING INSTRUMENTS
Basically the testing instruments are classified into four categories
Fiber testing instruments
Yarn testing instruments
Fabric testing instruments
Multi-Purpose testing instruments
Other testing instruments
FIBER TESTING INSTRUMENTS
Fiber testing instruments are used to find or to determine the various properties of the
fiber such as staple length, fineness, nep count, strength, trash content etc. some of the
modern instruments available in the market are
Digi Vision Projection Microscope, Uster HVI 1000
YARN TESTING INSTRUMENTS
Yarn testing instruments are used to find or to determine the various properties of Yarn
such as twist, Strength, Elongation, RKM, Count, Evenness etc. some of the modern
instruments available in the market are Yarn Tension Meter, Digital Yarn Tension Meter,
Twist Tester (Single Yarn)
FABRIC TESTING INSTRUMENTS
Fabric testing instruments are used to find or to determine the various properties of the
fabric such as bursting strength, tearing strength, Tensile Strength, Darpeability, Air &
Water Permeability etc.
Some of the modern instruments available in the market are digital Mini-Martindale,
Dynamic Air Permeability Tester, Flammability Tester
3
MULTI-PURPOSE TESTING INSTRUMENTS
Universal testing instruments are used to find or to determine the various properties
are fibre, yarn and Fabric.
Universal Testing Machines
HVI 1000
FEATURES
It measures all the important quality parameters currently used by textile industries
such as Micronaire, fiber length, length uniformity, strength, color, and trash.
Additional information on short fibers, cotton maturity and sample moisture content
are also evaluated.
700 samples can be tested per 8-hour shift
4
USTER AFIS PRO 2
In Uster Afis Pro 2, any material in the form of bale, mat, sliver or roving can be tested
on the, repeatedly and reliably. Blends can be tested up to a ratio of 50% cotton: 50% synthetic.
FEATURES
Basic measurements of the NC Module include the amount of cotton fiber and seed
coat neps.
L&M Module measures fiber length and short fiber content, plus cotton maturity and
immature fiber content.
Trash Module measures the trash and dust content in cotton
Histogram Reports show the distribution of each fiber property compared to its size
group, visualizing the impact of a process on the fiber material..
5
DIGI VISION MICROSCOPE
FEATURES
Latest design computer interfaced projection microscope for fiber & yarn analysis.
With maximum resolution of 1500X magnification
Photos of all fibers longitudinal & cross-sectional view are loaded in software to
identify the fibers without prior knowledge in the same.
Various type of measurement like length, area, count of any fine textile fiber can be
done.
6
USTER TESTER 5-C800 (UT5)
Evenness %, Thick & thin places, neps are measured
Analysis of VL-Curves, Spectrogram.
With the special sensor technology, periodic or nearly periodic mass variations
caused by defective rotating machine parts (such as gears from the spinning pump)
can be detected with the spectrogram.
Operated at speeds up to 800 m/min with continuous adjustability
7
DIGITAL YARN TENSION METER
PRINCIPLE
Digital yarn tension meter has a specially designed electronic sensor which is
capable of sensing tension in the moving yarn very accurately.
This sensor converts the tension read by the sensing probe into the equivalent
electrical signal. This signal is processed through the micro-controller and the yarn
tension is displayed digitally in grams.
FEATURES
Capacity 0 to 200gms, accuracy 1gm.
Portable & handy can be carried anywhere.
Smooth precision-engineered mechanism
Latest model with sophisticated design
8
USTER TENSOJET 4
FEATURES
The high performance installation USTER TENSOJET 4 can carry out fully automatic
measurements with up to 30'000 tests – which means 24 km of yarn – per hour.
Spectrogram allows identification of periodic faults.
Fully automatic check of the whole measurement.
9
USTER TENSORAPID 4
FEATURES
USTER TENSORAPID 4 supplies all standard test values of tensile testing and provides
in-depth analysis of yarn quality.
Smart and easy operation
Customized solutions to eliminate routine tasks
10
FABRIC TESTING INSTRUMENTS
DIGITAL BURSTING STRENGTH TESTER
FEATURES
Fully automatic digital model
It is used to find the bursting strength of the fabric.
It is used for all type of fabrics, specially geo-textile fabrics.
It is fully computerized instruments.
Hydraulic pressure is used to burst the fabric.
11
DIGITAL ELMENDORF TEAR TESTER
The Digital Elmendorf Tear Tester is a microprocessor controlled instrument for determining the
internal tearing resistance of paper and board. The instrument features a digital display and
enhanced accuracy.
FEATURES
Pneumatic clamping of sample
Pneumatic pendulum release
Internal microprocessor for calibration, calculations, and data presentation.
Digital selection of number of plies torn allows for single ply testing
12
DIGITAL MINI-MARTINDALE
It is a fabric abrasion resistance tester with digital display.
FEATURES
The mini-martindale has a powerful drive system to overcome the high levels of
friction, which are generated, when rubbing, for example, rubber gloves against glass
paper.
Higher speeds for accelerated testing.
Suitable for wet testing
Ideal for tests generating high levels of friction
Sample thickness up to 20mm
Additional loading up to 1.4kg
DIGITAL MINI-MARTINDALE
It is a fabric abrasion resistance tester with digital display.

13
DIGITAL AIR PERMEABILITY TESTER
PRINCIPLE
The principle of the digital air permeability tester is that air is drawn through a
specified area of fabric, which is adjustable to suit specific textiles being
evaluated.
APPLICATIONS
Textile Fabrics Blankets Knitted or layered fabrics Non-woven airbag fabrics Napped fabrics Pile fabrics
FEATURES
Digital operation
Quick and simple process
Useful for quality control

USTER FABRISCAN
USTER FABRISCAN provides with an automatic consistently objective and
reproducible inspection of the fabric.
At a speed up to 120 meters per minute, dependent on the fabric characteristics, Fabriscan
is capable to detect flaws and defects as small as 0.3 mm.
Automatic fault reporting and fault marking.
Non-disturbing deviation versus defects.
USTER FABRISCAN ON-LOOM
USTER FABRISCAN ON-LOOM integrated fabric inspection system inspects every
single millimeter of the fabric and checks it for defects. The scanner sensors are in
direct contact with the fabric and deliver high-quality images for reliable detection of
defects.
Detecting fabric defects immediately as they occur, enabling early intervention -
independently of human perception.
When accompanied by the On-Loom Expert system, it replaces cloth inspection.
