A new Indian earthworm species “Jai Gopal” (Perionyx ceylanesis) developed through selection and mating plan and found better than exotic earthworms viz., Eisenea foetida and Eudrilus eugeneae with reference to following characteristics:

Animal Feed & Nutrition Technologies
1. Cold Process Technology for Preparation of Urea Molasses
Mineral Block (UMMB) Cereal crop residues are deficient in nitrogen, minerals and
vitamins, therefore, have poor intake with reduced digestibility of
various nutrients in cattle/buffaloes. Supplementation of these crop
residues with urea molasses mineral block (UMMB) improves intake
as well as digestibility of fibrous crop residues. The ingredients used
in UMMB are: urea, molasses, cement, mineral mixture, salt, wheat
bran, vitamin A & D3.
Main Features
Brick shaped blocks of about 2 kg weight have been found to be useful for adult cattle and buffaloes.
Ingredients are easily available with simple processing method.
It supplies protein, essential minerals and vitamins.
Blocks are cheaper than the conventional source of intact proteins (Oilcakes).
The density of UMMB is much higher than the ingredients, which facilitates long distance transportation, at a cheaper rate.
It is economical with a reasonable shelf life and suitable during scarcity periods especially droughts and floods.
The technology comes within the purview of the norms of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)/Biosafety standards/ other standards.
2. Compressed Complete Feed Blocks (CCFB) Thses block are made by incorporating suitable amount of complete
feed mixture consisting of wheat straw, molasses, crushed maize,
deoiled peanut meal, mineral mixture, sea salt and vitamin A & D3 whci
are compressed to form CCFB. This technology provides a great
potential for an efficient utilization of available crop residues and agro
industrial by-products including waste materials as a low cost as well as
ready to eat diet espically during the scarcity conditions.
Main Features
The feeding of CCFB stabilizes rumen fermentation, minimizes fermentation loss and ensures
better ammonia utilization.
It ensures consumption of desired proportion of all feed ingredients (roughage, concentrate and
minerals) and increases total dry matter and organic matter intake.
It also increases milk production and body weight gain.
It allows greater use of feed ingredients having low palatability by uniform blending, which helps
to mask bad odour.
It increases bulk density and storage capacity of feedstuffs, which makes easy transportation.
3. Mineralized urea molasses liquid supplements (MUMLS)
Animals are mainly fed on crop residues, which are usually deficient
in protein, minerals and vitamins. Though these crop residues are
store house of the energy in the form of cellulose which is not
available to ruminants because of lingo-cellulose complex. Various
methods have been tried to improve their nutritional values. The
Mineralized Urea Molasses liquid is mixed with the daily quota of
fodder as “Sani” to overcome the chances of urea toxicity by
inducing gradual supply of urea nitrogen to ruminants.
Main Features
It substantially increase feed intake.
The MUMLS is available in polypacks which facilitate easy transportation and distribution among
livestock owners.
It induces a good persistency in milk production of lactating animals.
4. Feed supplement for reducing Fasciolosis in ruminants Functional feeds provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition due to presence of certain physiologically active compounds. The dietary supplementation of Deoiled Mahua Seed Cake (DMSC) in the concentrate mixture of buffaloes has reduced the fasciolosis substantially. The beneficial effects have been attributed to the phyto-nutrients present in DMSC (tannins and saponins).
5. Feed block for reducing methane production in ruminants
Naturally occurring secondary metabolites of many plants have shown potential to improve rumen fermentation and increase feed efficiency and live weight gain by reducing methane emission. Feed Block technology provides opportunity for incorporation of deficient nutrients, use of unconventional and agro-industrial by-products for optimum livestock production. Unconventional oil cakes like DMSC and GM in compressed complete feed block (CCFB) are used to reduce the methane production.
6. A Mixture of plants for Inhibition of Methane Emission in Buffaloes (Anti-methane)
It is a feed additive, prepared by mixing dry powder of fruit pulp, bulb and seeds of the various plants. It is safe for feeding as the chemical constituents of these plants are not toxic for the animals. Main Features
The feeding of “Anti-methane” @ 1 per cent of dry matter intake results in 32% inhibition of methane emission and 6.6% better feed conversion efficiency, with no adverse effect on the feed utilization and rumen fermentation parameters in buffaloes
It can be stored easily for long duration without any adverse effect on its quality
The dietary energy is conserved by reducing methane production due to feeding of Anti-Methane in buffaloes thus making livestock production more economical.
7. An essential oil for inhibition of Methane Emission in Buffaloes (Methane Suppressor)
It is a feed additive containg Ajwain oil, which reduces methane emission on feeding to animals.
This is mixed with the concentrate mixture just before feeding.
The Ajwain oil is easily avilable in the market and can be used as such for feeding.
8. Jev Sel 101: An Organic source of Selenium
The product is in powder form and contain about 1.34 % selenium on dry matter basis.
It is prepared by growing Saccharomyces cerevisiae in a defined medium at definite tempeture.
9. Farming system based area specific mineral mixture Basal feed of livestock in mixed farming systems depend on the cropping system, specific to each agro-
ecological zone. The feeding of poor quality roughages (wheat & paddy straw and sugarcane tops) with
little supplements to cattle and buffaloes in the Indo-Gangetic plains of Northern India results in mineral
imbalances leading to specific deficiency disorders, which primarily contribute to their poor
reproduction and production performance.
Main Features
It contains only those essential minerals which are likely to be deficient due to long term feeding of
wheat/ paddy straws and sugarcane tops as major roughage. However, existing area specific mineral
mixtures used in different parts of India contain almost all the essential minerals and sometimes non-
mineral components.
It is cost effective supplement and specific for Wheat-Rice-Sugarcane farming system.
10. Process for the Preparation of Zinc Methionine Complex
The product is in powder form and contain 10% Zinc.
It is stable at room tempreature and can be stored for indefinite period of time.
Process is very simple, repeatable and can easily be taken up by any industry veturing in the field.
11. Probiotic for Livestock
a) Probiotic for calf: It is is wheat bran, fermented with microbial culture and considered safe for
feeding.
Feeding of probiotic results in significant reduction in diarrhea in young calves and maintains good
health.
For making fermented wheat bran, no extra input is required and farmer can prepare himself after a
short training.
Since the product contains live cells of bacteria, it can be used for feeding up to 15 days by following the
instructions provided with the product.
The feeding of probiotic will reduce morbidity as well as mortality in young calves, which will make
livestock production more profitable.
The “Probiotic for calf” is superior to other probiotic products available in the market since it contain live
microbial cells hence more effective.
b) Probiotic for cows/buffalo: It is wheat bran, fermented with microbial culture and considered safe for
feeding.
Feeding of probiotic results in significant increase in feed intake, fibre digestibility and body weight gain

Shelf stability at the ambient temperature avoids the cost of refrigeration and cold chain facility for storage and transportation, respectively.

2. Milk Nimiki
It is ready-to-eat (RTE), tasty and healthy milk based crispy snack product.
It is rich in protein with a low fat content and served as good substitute for the starch based fried snack products.
It is a shelf stable product and can be stored for months at room temperature.
This technology promotes the value addition of milk and dairy by-products.
3. Milk Nuggets
It is a ready-to-eat (RTE), nutritious and tasteful milk product.
This milk product is batter based, salty and spicy.
It is rich in protein, low in fat and contains high fibers.
The technology is simple and can be adopted by small and medium entrepreneurs.
4. Functional chicken and mutton nuggets
A ready- to- eat (RTE) chicken-mutton product with a very low salt content.
It is nutritious, tasty and healthier product as it contain low fat content (<10%) and high dietary fiber (6%).
The technology can easily be adopted by small and medium entrepreneurs.
5. Emulsion based chicken products
These are ready-to-eat (RTE) processed chicken products.
Emulsion based chicken nuggets, patties, rolls; balls, frankfurters etc. are made from the meat and edible byproducts like skin, gizzard and heart of aged/ spent poultry which are delicious, safe and nutritious.
These products have indigenous flavour profile and ensure effective utilization of low-quality meat.
The shelf life at 40C is about three weeks and about three months at -200C.
It is low input technology but has very high employment potential.
6. Emulsion based mutton and chevon products
Emulsion based meat blocks, nuggets and patties are processed from mutton or goat meat and byproducts along with dietary fibers.
These are highly acceptable, tasty and nutritious.
These products have indigenous flavour profile.
The shelf life is about three weeks at 40C and three months at -200C.
7. Chicken meat chips
It is a ready-to-eat (RTE), palatable and crisp snack containing nearly 29% protein.
The shelf life is about 4 months at ambient temperature under nitrogen packaging.
It has indigenous flavour profile and suitable for all age groups.
8. Vegetable incorporated meat products
It is nutritious, highly palatable and ensures effective utilization of tough and low quality meat from different species.
It incorporates seasonal vegetables which reduce the cost of production significantly.
Use of vegetables improve flavour, significantly reduce fat oxidation and improve microbiological and sensory qualities of products during storage at refrigerated temperature.
9. Hurdle technology based meat pickle
A ready to use food adjunct of animal origin with spiced bite size pieces.
It is suitable for consumers who avoid the use of excess salt and acidic products.
Its shelf life at ambient temperature is more than 4 months.
It is low input technology and can be easily adopted by the entrepreneurs.
10. Premium chicken soup
A ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken soup with a very little salt content.
It is nutritious, tasty and healthier as it contains very low fat content.
The technology can easily be adopted by small and medium entrepreneurs
